Default Have got the "bug".

Well this old amateur Model A guy has got the "bug". That is the accumulation of more than one Model A. The other big news is that this one is a "true blue" (well actually green) Model A. A mostly orginal 1929 Model A business coupe. Looks like an amateur restorer (like me) had restored it a few years back but it is complete. All steel, some aftermarket parts but it is all there. But, as of now, it is not running. Does not seem to have any spark. So now the work begins. Just thought I would share the news and show a picture of it in its new home.

P.S. Anyone have any good ideas where to start to see why there is not spark?

Thats a Standard Coupe (45a). The business coupes had a different top with the oval side windows. Looks like a nice find.

Looks like a nice little coupe. Congrats, I would clean all electrical connections and terminals in the cap and on rotor along with the points.

Thanks guys. So Greg you say it is a Standard Coupe? Thanks. Is yours the same kind?

I will try to get some more pictures and I am sure I will have a lot more questions as time goes by.

Two! Good thing I love my wife, or I would want yours. Congratulations on the car, and if you are married the wife too.

The wife informed me that this was my birthday present for the rest of my life!

BTW Greg, did you put a tail light on the right side of your rig? Or is it standard to have only one tail light? Mine only has one on the left side but I am wanting to put on turn signals so just wondered about the light on the right side.

Fred - Yes my car is a '29 Standard Coupe. If you look in the front of MAC's catalog, they have pics of various models and you can see what the business coupes look like. I'm almost positive yours is a Standard Coupe from the pic above.
When I got my car it only had the left hand tail light. When I added turn signals, I added the right side tail light. I almost cried as the drill bit went through the original fender, but I feel alot safer driving it now. I'm using the tail lights for the signals and added the bumper lights for the front.

Greg, You are correct that it's a standard coupe, and that a '29 business coupe had the oval quarter windows.

Great looking fine and sounds like a minor problem. Simply trace the spark until you get to the point that it is lacking. Points, corrosion, condenser, wire short , plugs, are all possibilities. I would clean each connection in the electrical system as a point of departure.

My PU only had the left tail light on it when I got it. Since then I put the Right tail light and cowl lights so that I could use them for turn signals, which, by the way, work perfectly!

It was even worse when I put cowl lights, drilling a hole in a perfectly good piece of sheet metal!

Congratulations! Great color combo... right out of an original magazine ad.

I'll second earlier posters... disassemble, clean and tighten ALL electrical connections before you start to worry. (Oh, and dress the points, too.)

And do keep us posted.

LOL, Don. Should have said that first... check/replace battery, THEN disassemble, clean and tighten the electrics!
