Default 1946 Lincoln voltage regulator

Does anyone know how to test and adjust a 1946 Lincoln V12 voltage regulator with 3 prongs for Battery, Field, Amp with a side bolt ground to firewall. I took off cover and there was no visible way for adjustment, like a screw. It is most likely the same as the V8. I am thinking of switching to a 8 volt battery for faster start.
Thanks, Rick

Find old "motor " book covering your years and there will be in depth instructions,
Crank the engine with ignition off for 30 seconds and feel all the wires between battery and engine, where it is hot there's bad connections, also look for rusty nuts and lock washers on wiring connections, 8v has problems of its own like light bulbs burn out quickly, and what size battery do you have, a group 1 battery is smaller than originally installed but is commonly used because it is available and cheaper

.

As "Kurt" implies above.....you DON'T EVEN want an 8v battery set-up. You don't realize what you're getting into with that nightmare. DD

Back in the mid 60's when I restored my 1st V12 Lincoln there was a "Hot Start" relay that allowed your engine to start on 6 volts right to the coil and after car started, drop back to 3.4 or whatever your car was using. It is a
small complete wiring harness that is under the dash. "E" mail me if you

Ford published a voltage and generator manual in about 46 with the voltage regulator adjustments. There are a couple on Ebay now.

You might want to see if you can find an "old school" auto electric shop in your area. I took the generator and regulator from my '46 Coupe to one near where I live, for rebuild of the generator, and testing/adjusting the regulator. They rebuilt the generator, then put it on their test unit with my regulator, to confirm both were operating to standard, or make adjustments to the regulator. The owner also reminded me about polarizing the generator after installing. It cost me $150 all in, and now I have a system that I can depend on to charge properly.
