At what point is it NOT a Model A?
At what point is it NOT a Model A?
For example: A custom bodied speedster/hill climber mounted to a 1929 Frame, using the mechanical brakes, wheels, front end, rear end, steering column, radiator with shell as in 1929. I am undecided on an A or B engine. Thanks for your insights and thoughts. |

Then you have to think what a reasonable court of law would think is beyond the original car. One would think a basically original engine and driveline is close enough. Pretty sure chevy engine, Mustang II front end, aftermarket frame, and a jag rear is not an A. FWIW, in NJ they have been checking on the drivelines. I know of 2 T buckets that were forced to give up their original titles and change to a custom built title. Others are sending in stock pictures of original cars and engines when requested by the state during registration renewals. |

If you went to the Doctor and got a new hart, would you still be you. I say yes but you would no longer be original. If you lost a arm or leg would you still be you?

It's what your insurance carrier says it is as well as the DMV registration.

Re: At what point is it NOT a Model A?
I personally don't believe it should be what is on the title! A Shay is listed as a Model A and it is anything but. It us a lot closer to a kit car. There is nothing on it Model A! They even oust them as 1929 which is totally false. Wayne

Re: At what point is it NOT a Model A?
This is a question that will never have a consensus so we let the politicians decide for us.
In a legal sense, a fiberglass body that is mounted on a TCI chassis, with a chevy crate motor, a mustang rearend, Foose alloy wheels, air-conditioning, tinted windows and a Gucci interior could be titled as a 1930 Coupe in some states and that means it is a 1930 Coupe in the eyes of the law. Doesn't make it a 1930 Coupe to me. -Tim

Re: At what point is it NOT a Model A?
Is it the air conditioning or the Gucci interior that pushes it over the line?

To answer that question, once you lose a leg and get a new one it becomes part of you, ask me how I know. I wear one of my legs (3 of them) from the time I get up until I go to bed, I even have a skinny dipping, Oops I mean a shower or water leg. I still drive, climb ladders, remodel bathrooms and kitchens, etc. |

Re: At what point is it NOT a Model A?
Say you built a car using all original parts from other Model A's would it be a Model A. I ask because I have done this.
If you built your car with a lot of reproduction parts is it still a Model A? |

Re: At what point is it NOT a Model A?

Re: At what point is it NOT a Model A?
Years ago we were riding the "Sugar Pine" railroad outside of Yosemite. My daughter Heather was about 5. The steam train was put away and they were giving rides on a contraption that once took the men out to their work sites. Model A Ford powered. Heather said, "Dad, is this train a Model A?" She had a fine ear.
