Cogged fan belt
I just ordered a cogged fan belt from McMaster Carr. It is 43 inches outside circumference and 21/32 wide at the top. I like the fact that it is 1/32 wider than the stock 5/8 because it will accommodate worn pulleys. McMaster Carr is expensive and the shipping is too so I try to buy more than just one thing at a time.
The cogged belts are original type and will bend easier around smaller alternator pulleys. https://www.mcmaster.com/6057K117/

Re: Cogged fan belt
The most popular cogged belt is part number BX40.

Re: Cogged fan belt
I usually get my belts and such from RockAuto. I like the Dayco belts "Double Cog".
Rock Auto has ignition and other parts for Model A also. |

Re: Cogged fan belt
I get my cogged belts from NAPA. They have to order them for me for next day delivery but no issue with availability.

Rockauto are good to deal with for international shipping. You can mix and match parts to fill a box from location A or B to optimise cost. If they send the wrong thing, they will pay for shipping back. Mostly use it for plugs and timing belt kits for modern vehicles. My brother in law has discovered it for his Volt.

Re: Cogged fan belt
One reason that *x belts are more expensive is the length(s) are very tightly controlled.
These are made to be used in multiple belt applications for higher HP. They do work well for the small pulleys that the alternators need. John

Re: Cogged fan belt
The one from McMaster Carr is the same as the BX40.

Re: Cogged fan belt
Rock Auto offerings are pretty cheap (I need the extra length, so it is a BX41)
Sorry about the small print! The Gates is $13.21. |

Re: Cogged fan belt
I use BX42, BX40 doesn’t fit. Didn’t know there was a BX41!
