Default Garage Art

Finally after many years I have a real garage! WHEW!
I am looking for a few things to put on the freshly sheetrocked walls.
Does anyone out there have any good ideas for me?
I was looking at some old Restorer magazines and see back in 1994 there were some interresting prints by Fred Henley of the Model A's.
Really like the one "Henry & Edsel".
Do any of you know where some of these might be available? Or do any of you have one that is not being used and you might part with?
If you do...please send me a PM and I will follow up.
(Will be away today...but back in the AM)
Thanks for any help. Gil NoCal

Come on now.........a REAL garage has the walls covered by shelves full of Model A parts.

I have a large lubrication poster that I'd like to frame and hang on the wall.
I also have the large poster of the cutaway Tudor.

Here are 2 ideas I have, but my shop walls are full of shelves, etc..
Use a 30 31 rim with a old style tire installed, then mount a quartz clock motor behind with shaft through the hubcap use the long style hands and you now have a cool clock. You can get the clock parts at clockkit.com. another clock can be made out of a radiator shell fill the center with a piece of tin or plywood painted black, fasten a license plate of whatever year you want to fill some of the space, and a clock works with hands for the time.

Brattons Catalog has several nice posters like lubrication chart,, model A 23 color pictures, Fabulous Fords poster, model A Fords poster with 40 factory pictures, Dealer showroom pictures poster, and most important, the model A powerplant troubles made easy. These posters are on page 155 of the newest Brattons catalog. We bought these, made frames and hung them in our little shop. A good helpful poster that you can make yourself is the head nut sequence chart for torqueing the head.

I have a framed lube chart, a framed wiring diagram, assorted road signs, assorted art, and two pin ups. One of the pin ups I took the pic of a model friend of mine. The other is a calendar from 53'.

Being an architect, I have high end gloss blue cabinets on the wall with A part in boxes (all labelled of course). On top of the cabinets are oil cans, bottles, old car things. The cabinets are set high enough to sit above the roadster as it is on rollers to push it against the wall as close as possible.

Gil:
Just sent you a private message about the Fred Henley prints made in the early 90's. I was the editor of the Restorer at the time and commissioned Fred to make a series of original Model A posters; they were all limited editions signed and numbered by the artist. I think we did six different posters including the one of Henry and Edsel. I had one of each of them dry mounted and they hang in my workshop.

I still have several of each of the originals if anyone is interested. They are 19" high x 25" wide and do make great garage art.

Not cheap, but very cool "art" (if you have the space and like the glow of neon).

I've found over the years that wall space is far too precious to waste on art. You can never have enough wall space for storage and functional equipment.

Probably not. I almost sold the quarter panel a few years ago, its actually pretty good. I think that I'll just keep it for yard art. That stuff is mostly too big to ship and most would want it for less than what I paid for it. Thanks Ray for the interest.

For those of you who are curious about the "Henry & Edsel" limited edition print Gil mentioned above and don't know what they look like, here's a shot I took using my iPhone (not the best image) of it along with one of the Mother-in-Law Seat and the one promoting the 1992 MAFCA National in Dallas. Each print is signed by the artist and is a numbered limited edition print. They each measure 19" x 25". They are $30 each (signed and numbered) and $7.50 for the postage and mailing tube whether you bought one or more. I am now sold out of the Henry & Edsel print and the '92 National print and only have 3 of the Mother-in-Law Seat Cabriolet prints left. These are available at the same price they were initially offered for 20 years ago - first come, first served.

My garage art is framed pictures of my cars with my family in them or standing next to them. The pictures are our family history with our Model As. The timeline of the pictures is from the late 60s until recent years. I also have glass covered cabinets full of scale model cars and a large, wall mounted tool cabinet.

I was also gonna say hobby lobby. Another idea is to use old hub caps with a color changing LED strip behind it. Mount it on a wall and enjoy a cool lit hub cap with colors going through it or radiating around it.

Garage Art??

I thought someone was going to show us pictures of oil and water spill pattern on the floor and ask us what we saw in them - then analyzed us using Rorschach's psychological interpretation.

I can save everyone considerable time and effort.

Every car guy is plumb crazy.
The older the cars they are interested in the crazier the person is.

Take Richard Eagle an avid T guy for example - when he's sane he is great - but most of the time he is a bit off --
In case your wondering that is his intepretation of an idiot light.

Progress here!
First...The first thing that went into the garage was the shelves...and yes...they are getting quite full of "Parts for the future!". Seems I can never have too many Model A parts!
But after I got the rest of the garage sheet rocked... I wanted something nice. And thanks to Fred...who had a couple of the Henry & Edsel posters left hanging around...and is shipping me one...that project can be checked off my list!
Also to note...my small garage is shared by not only the 31 Vicky...but also a 1960 Triumph TR3A that I restored. I know...The odd couple! A number of years ago I got the image of the TR3 hood ornament done in neon tube...Looks pretty cool...and will be hanging that out there above the tool box.
Thanks for those who took the time to reply.

Joop...Print of Henry & Edsel in your office is looking mighty good.
As I look at those two men....if they could see the Model A world today...wonder what they would be saying?

"Whew...check the shine job on that car over there!"
"Where are they getting all that power!"
"How many cars do they get for $20K?"

Fun to think about stuff like that!

Besides parts I have old news paper adds for car sales. I worked const. for 35 years and in that time I have lots of cans, bottles, butter churns, apple cider press, and lots of old news papers from 30s up to the 80s---all from houses or barns that were to be torn down for housing projects. I sold a lot of stuff to an interior decorator for new businesses and got crazy money for the stuff.

Just remember - when you have some hooks a wall becomes a verticle floor.

You can also add that the ceiling becomes another storage place.

Reading some of the posts drove me to pull out my copy of the 1928 local paper....The Kelseyville "The Sun" newspaper....Where I see the Kelseyville Garage offering a special on "Genuine Ford Batteries"....13 plate and Rubber case now $11. General Motors had a large ad reminding you to come see your next car there...offering "7 famous cars with 86 models and the GMAC low cost Purchase Plan. Models $495 to $550. And....A 1/4 size page ad from Ford Motor Company...with heading:
"Protect Your Investment in Your Model T Ford". Inviting you to come in and get a quote on what new parts would cost to keep your investment up to snuff! Last but not lease...is the Willys-Overland ad "Announcing The Worlds Lowest Priced Six! The New Whippet Six 5 passenger coach $695."
Fun reading. Gil NoCal

Holy Cow, Chris. If I ever get to California again, I'm going to look you up. I would love to hear the stories on those old Harleys.
