Garage Art
Finally after many years I have a real garage! WHEW!
I am looking for a few things to put on the freshly sheetrocked walls. Does anyone out there have any good ideas for me? I was looking at some old Restorer magazines and see back in 1994 there were some interresting prints by Fred Henley of the Model A's. Really like the one "Henry & Edsel". Do any of you know where some of these might be available? Or do any of you have one that is not being used and you might part with? If you do...please send me a PM and I will follow up. (Will be away today...but back in the AM) Thanks for any help. Gil NoCal |

Re: Garage Art
Come on now.........a REAL garage has the walls covered by shelves full of Model A parts.
I have a large lubrication poster that I'd like to frame and hang on the wall. I also have the large poster of the cutaway Tudor. |

Re: Garage Art
For sure the pin up girls would have been in one of the old time garages!
But...will pass on them in this garage! Gil NoCal |

Re: Garage Art
Here are 2 ideas I have, but my shop walls are full of shelves, etc..
Use a 30 31 rim with a old style tire installed, then mount a quartz clock motor behind with shaft through the hubcap use the long style hands and you now have a cool clock. You can get the clock parts at clockkit.com. another clock can be made out of a radiator shell fill the center with a piece of tin or plywood painted black, fasten a license plate of whatever year you want to fill some of the space, and a clock works with hands for the time.

Re: Garage Art
Brattons Catalog has several nice posters like lubrication chart,, model A 23 color pictures, Fabulous Fords poster, model A Fords poster with 40 factory pictures, Dealer showroom pictures poster, and most important, the model A powerplant troubles made easy. These posters are on page 155 of the newest Brattons catalog. We bought these, made frames and hung them in our little shop. A good helpful poster that you can make yourself is the head nut sequence chart for torqueing the head.

Re: Garage Art
I have a framed lube chart, a framed wiring diagram, assorted road signs, assorted art, and two pin ups. One of the pin ups I took the pic of a model friend of mine. The other is a calendar from 53'.

Re: Garage Art
Being an architect, I have high end gloss blue cabinets on the wall with A part in boxes (all labelled of course). On top of the cabinets are oil cans, bottles, old car things. The cabinets are set high enough to sit above the roadster as it is on rollers to push it against the wall as close as possible.

Just sent you a private message about the Fred Henley prints made in the early 90's. I was the editor of the Restorer at the time and commissioned Fred to make a series of original Model A posters; they were all limited editions signed and numbered by the artist. I think we did six different posters including the one of Henry and Edsel. I had one of each of them dry mounted and they hang in my workshop. I still have several of each of the originals if anyone is interested. They are 19" high x 25" wide and do make great garage art. Fred Carlton

Re: Garage Art
Not cheap, but very cool "art" (if you have the space and like the glow of neon).

Re: Garage Art
I've found over the years that wall space is far too precious to waste on art. You can never have enough wall space for storage and functional equipment.

Re: Garage Art
I'll bet that tudor was running when it was parked. You gonna restore it someday, Purdy?

Re: Garage Art
Probably not. I almost sold the quarter panel a few years ago, its actually pretty good. I think that I'll just keep it for yard art. That stuff is mostly too big to ship and most would want it for less than what I paid for it. Thanks Ray for the interest.

Re: Garage Art
For those of you who are curious about the "Henry & Edsel" limited edition print Gil mentioned above and don't know what they look like, here's a shot I took using my iPhone (not the best image) of it along with one of the Mother-in-Law Seat and the one promoting the 1992 MAFCA National in Dallas. Each print is signed by the artist and is a numbered limited edition print. They each measure 19" x 25". They are $30 each (signed and numbered) and $7.50 for the postage and mailing tube whether you bought one or more. I am now sold out of the Henry & Edsel print and the '92 National print and only have 3 of the Mother-in-Law Seat Cabriolet prints left. These are available at the same price they were initially offered for 20 years ago - first come, first served.
