Default tires

Its time to consider new tires for the 31.
While the stock 19" wheels have the standard 4.75/5.00 tires
Wonder if any of you have used 5.25/5.50 tires?
Any issues with the larger size?
Input appreciated. Gil. NoCal

Others may have more specific input, but on my 32 truck (not model A) I have larger tires and when I turn, the tires sometimes rub against the brake rods. Also, if you have a front fender mounted spare, it may not fit.

FWIW, I have run 5.25X21 tyres on my '29 without issue. They rode little more firmly due to their heavier construction (6 ply) but other than that, and better traction, fine.
Have you considered radial ply tyres??

Would live to do the radials.... Just not in the budget.
Hav found what I think is a deal on these 5:25/5:50's.
Was hoping the group here might hav had experience
They might share here.
Thx for the input. Gil. NoCal

If your '31 is a heavy 4 door, be sure to get some good stiff tires. I had the Vietnam tires on mine and had a terrible YAW problem. New Firestones fixed mine.

We put the EXcelsior tires on the 31 roadster pick up and Paul put them on his 29 town sedan. They are larger in size but fit the rims correctly. In addition these are radial tires and come with a 50,000 mile tread warranty. They ride very well and are quiet.

Just ordered a set of Firestone 21" black walls for my 29 CCPU.
Currently have a set of INSA'S on the truck. They have very few miles on them. The P.O. put them on probably less that 1,500 miles on them.

They are fine and would look good on a Tudor but profile just is not beefy enough for the truck. I like the looks of the Firestones and since I tour I like a little wider tire etc.

My INSA tires will be offered for sale at Hershey this fall.

I have 550-19 tires on the back of my 30 coupe, they stand taller than standard tires. Gives me a 3% overdrive. I like them, they help get me down the road easier. They replaced 600-16s, which climbed the hills like a mountain goat. Noticed a big difference when I went to the big ones. But a fresh motor with a 3/4 Winfield cam solved that problem.

Put bigger tires on the rear and smaller on the front. That way it's always going downhill and will be way more fuel efficient!
YMMV

I like larger tires on just about everything and wouldn't use anything else today on the 'A' except radials. They'll probably never have to be replaced.

Rip, the yaw is a rotation around a vertical line through the center of the car. My car is heavy and a steering input would move the motormeter from side to side. No roll, just a front and rear end sway in the opposite directions. Scary. Hard to drive with a full load of people. jack

I'm thinking about running Lester 525/550-19 (front) and 600-19 (rear) on the '30/31 Tudor when I finally purchase one.
