you can tell if the shafts are on right at a glance.if the overflow pipe is at the front on the pass side and the rear on the drivers they are correct.

Best not to spin an engine (starter motor) if dry (hard on components) or if a fresh engine has cam lube. The cam lube will be wiped off.
