Default May 5 Drive

Great day for a spring drive in the Merc yesterday. Ground still damp from the day before's rain but no mud. (Or dust). Noticed the rear axle pinion seal leaked oil parked in the shed for a couple of weeks. Vent is clear so I can't figure that one out. Needs that new seal put in for sure.

My avatar started a leak like that. Turned out to be the pinion nut had loosened which in turn led to a huge failure.

Yes, I found the pinion nut had loosened up on this one as well and that was causing the howl on deceleration. I tightened it up and the noise went away but not the leak. I have a new seal to install so I might give that a try. I hope it works because that's about as far as I want to get into a differential.
