body number
The body number on my 28-29 special coupe is F1222. Which body factory did this come from, and is there a way of dating the body from the number? The tank/cowl was swapped out for a RHD so any numbers, if any are not going to be correct. I would guess it's a Canadian as it has robertson head screws in it. The body was imported from USA around fifteen years ago, but the robertsons were only used on Canadian bodies as far as I know. All info appreciated.

Re: body number
Dave, Model A's here mostly have these 'F' stamped bodies. The cars are 'Canadian' but basic body shell [ 'in white'] may have originated at Detroit. Most of them have the Robertson interior trim screws, but all that would have been installed when they were finished in Canada. 'F' stamp also appears in US & Canadian domestic production but Canadian assembled A's within Canada often have W, V, T & M stamped. These do not appear on Canadian export RHD cars to NZ, India, Sth Africa or Sth E. Asia that I know of.
If anyone has definitive proof of 'F' stamped bodies originating from somewhere else, I'd would be very interested to know. |

Re: body number
To my knowledge, bodies that were 'F' stamped were made in the Rouge Plant in Detroit. My A495 has a body stamp "F260".

Re: body number
I'm with Dean. My Tudor is a Rouge car and has an "F" code also. Steve Pluckers web site has all the plant codes.
