Mass YOM plate how to check availability?

I need to see if the number has already been assigned. Is there a site to check it? I have gone through the MA RMV site but all they show is a form to register.I only want to see if it can be used.

Register it and let them figure it out.

In Illinois, one need only to carry the legit modern plate in the car while using YOM plates.

Massachusetts guy here. What I have done is to use this link: https://www.mass.gov/how-to/check-th...e-registration then select "Check your vehicle registration status online."
Entered the plate number and selected different plate types to see if any vehicle was registered using the plate number. Registry won't allow plates with duplicate numbers to be entered into their system, even if the duplicate number is on a different plate type.
