Is this normal?
Did a search on kijiji here in Canada for “Ford flathead” just for fun. Came across a few selling “rebuilt” engines ranging in price from CAN$6.5K up to CAN$12.5K. I thought we were done with Covid pricing?

Re: Is this normal?
Well, I just built my own Flathead and I stopped counting the costs but with me paying someone to do all of the machine work and me putting together, I’m probably at least $7k into it. Now, I did buy new heads and can and water pumps and anything else I could buy new.

Re: Is this normal?
Yeah, I understand things are a bit costly, however from what I’m seeing, these prices seem high. I figure I got about CAN$5K into my build (I did everything myself excluding machine shop work & short block assy), but that is all new hardware, gaskets, spark plugs, spark plug wires, bearings, timing gear, lifters, pistons, piston rings, water pumps, belt, reground crank, reground cam, resurfaced flywheel, a quality machine shop short block assy, rebuilt starter, generator, carb, fuel pump, oil pump, and distributor. Some of these engines I think are far from being “rebuilt” in my book looking at them. For comparison purposes, here is my engine.

Re: Is this normal?
I paid USA $7,500 last year for a rebuilt turn-key stock flathead with a 4" crank- no speed parts from a nationally known reputable shop, thats with a core charge of $1,000. Seems like the going rate, but I'm sure there are some selling for slightly less.

Re: Is this normal?
That guy in Oregon (Eric?) maybe he relocated. Unfortunately, it is EASY to get that much money into a flathead nowadays depending on what you want.
