Default My cousin in Florida saw this old picture at a Cracker Barrel, this morning!

Cool picture.

It looks like a 29 Ford roadster.
What say you?

Notice the old cars in the background.

There is a neat picture of Colonel Sanders with his 31 Coupe in the entryway of a KFC near me.I never noticed it in others, but I would guess it is standard decor for all all of them.At that particular it is right in your face in the entryway.

Contact Cracker Barrel about purchasing the photo. All business like that are hurting for capital right now.

Just what are those boards leaning on thjs car?Are they some kind of paddle boards? Some kind of beach chairs? First thought was a guy and his surfboards, then I realized they were too short.Plus I can't see any kind of water board with a crossbar on it.

Great picture.

I would say that those boards are early forms of body boards. Maybe even skim boards.

Body boards are used to ride waves on your belly or even on your knees. Skim boards were used to slide along the sand when the water was retreating from the beach. Most likely, they are body boards.

My guess, the picture was taken on an East Coast prior to WWII.

Home made body boards were evident on the Pacific coast in Oregon and California until Hawaiian introduced surfboards became more common during the 1940's and 1950's. Somewhere I have family photos much like this from that time period, women in one piece wool swimsuits and bathing caps, with cars on beaches which were classified as public highways because there were no actual roads along the coast in many areas.

Oregon's beaches are mostly still regulated as public property under the Highway Division.

No outside door handles so that's a clue more like a 1928 model year.

Judging by the bathing suit and condition of the car, I would say it’s very early 1930’s at the latest for the photo. Another vote for early body boards.

I agree with 1928 on the car… whipcord top material and looks like a hand wiper (windshield is flipped all the way up facing viewer.)

Thumbs up Re: My cousin in Florida saw this old picture at a Cracker Barrel, this morning!

The cowl light(s) is an aftermarket one, I think.

Cool Pic. It very well may be regional, if the store is in Fla, this may even be Daytona. Cars on the beach there go as far back as there were cars. I too think these are skim boards. I had always thought of those as a product of the 21st century but some time ago saw an old movie on TCM with guys using them.

Yeah I caught that tan whipcord top too, that was used on the '28's until about June, 1928 then Ford went to the black long grain/short grain material.

Al's28/33, yes no outside door handles is a '28 giveaway.

Also a roadster, not phaeton, notice the step plate on rear fender.

Cool pic!
