Default cowl band clips

On a 30 / 31 tudor, under which screws go the clips to hold the cowl band down. most references just say the top screws but I cannot see where going right next to the hood retainer makes sense. would they go to the outer screws before it starts the curve downward? Using an aftermarket band, if that helps.

The clips were only used on early 30 bands. They did not have the raised dimples on the tank to position the band and they served that purpose. I have heard they help hold repro bands in place. In that case since the car not have them you put them where you need them.

The early bands had several unique features. They were longer, extending to the edge of the body, they were held on with carriage bolts thru the cowl, and they used the clips on the tank to position the band. I don't know if all these features changed to the later style at the same time.
