trans problem
does not engage imediatly you must press pedal very hard before it willengage same on brake reverse and low when engaged it is totally you cant brake slowly I have replaced bands to no avail Can anyone help???? |

If the bands are new (you said you replaced them) you might have burnt oil glaze on the trans. drums. If you pull the hogshead and loosen a band (or if you're lucky and have the newer style, loosen and unhook one end) and look at the drums - you can see if you have burnt oil glaze on them as they should be shiny. There is another answer, one I remember from one of my dad's cars. He had a 15 roadster that had "automatic trans" band linings, which have a horrible tendancy to "grab" Amazing how far a pair of 30x3 1/2 "non skids" *can* skid!), anyway, they were replaced with a set of "non" A/T band linings, and noticed the "grab" went away, but it took amore pressure to hold low or reverse - it *did* solve the skidding breaks tho. Make sure they are adjusted right. I had to readjust mine several times before I was happy. That is with Kevlar bands. Joe |
