Rear window questions

I have a 1930 coupe and wanted to put a roll down rear window.
Was this an accessory in the 30"s?
Is it hard to do?
Will it hurt re-sale value to put it in my car?
Has anyone here done it?

Do you have a ruble seat? I rode in a Coupe rumble seat the other day and commented to the guy next to me that if there was a roll down window in the Coupe it might be hitting out knees.

Interesting...So Tom, I am a 6'2 guy, do you think that the roll down window would really make much difference? I have a late 31 I'm in the middle of doing and it has a roll down window, but had a truck lid that someone already started converting to a rumble... I could go either way. In the other thread mentioned above they claim the roll down window was standard in late 31 with a rumble? what about with a trunk? I always thought it was an option.?

I put a rolldown rear window in my '30 coupe . It really cuts down on wind buffeting when the side windows are rolled down. But you lose 1" of seat travel with the rolldown window unless you modify the package tray. If you are 6' 2" tall I really recommend that you modify the package tray to get full seat travel. I'm only 5' 9" and I'm sorry I didn't do it.

I have a 30 coupe I did the conversion on,,, It came with the car if you ordered the rumble seat in late 31,,,It's a nice option,, but it's a big job doing the conversion, especialy on the 30...


A few thing's to consider,,,The package tray on your car should be about 6" wide...It has to be cut down to about 5" or you'll loose seat adjustment..The window wood is different, & has to be replaced on your 30...The window glass is different..The upholstery panel's are different...I found out the hard way when I went to install them. On your's the panel's should be about 19" tall from the tray to the headliner...


On the rolldown version they are about 18"...took me week's to fit the panel's. Good thing they were too tall as I'ed of been "Screwed" if it was the other way around..Thank's to Marco for telling me what was wrong !!!!.



As for not being original,,Technicaly the car (30) could of been upgraded by Ford at the Branch "Shop" like it state's in the service Bulletion...I don't know who would of did it back then,,but it was doable...


If your going to do the conversion, the best way is to order the "kit" & go from there... After I got done,,I really liked the set up,,,A very "Cool" upgrade.....

I've never sat in the rumble with a roll down window, so you'll have to ask the guy that has one if it cuts into the passenger leg room. Just thought I'd mention it as something to look out for.

I have a 31 Coupe with a roll down which works great to communicate with folks in the rumble seat. Obviously it will cut down your leg room in the rumble seat. It also is nice here in North Carolina in the hot weather (not so much this year...too much rain!) so you have more "flow through" ventilation in the cab. My roll down window only rolls down around half way and I would like to know if it should roll all the way to the bottom of the window opening. If it rolled down all the way to the bottom of the opening, there would be enough room to crawl from the rumble seat into the cab if you were a child.

If the rear window rolled all the way down it would really interfere with rumble seat leg room. It only rolls down about half way and then hits a rubber bumper in the bottom of the drip pan.

I have been considering installing the rear window roll down I have a 1929 coupe with rumble seat right now I leave the rear window out is makes it easier to talk with the kids when driving. I know that option did not come with the 1929 has anyone installed in the 29 I would think it’s the same is this correct... If so please let me know if it will work or is there a lot of modification work to be done.

An intercom would be a much easier installation.

Do it like in the old days, just a hose with a mouth piece on each end.

So, that's why my dad had a spool of waxed string!

I have a late '31 with rumble seat. How does the window roll up and down? Mine doesn't seem to work, and it's part-way open.

Racer: there's a knob on the back that turns. It rolls up the glass.
