Where to list a Model A for sale?
I am putting my Panel Delivery up for sale because I have gotten involved in a Land Speed Record project and want to buy an expensive piece of metal shaping equipment (an Eckold Piccolo machine). It turns out that I am a car builder as opposed to a car collector, so this is not a painfull decision.
My question is: where are other choices to advertise? I have it listed on this site, Hemmings and the MARC and MAFCA magazines. Any other choices?

I bought my car of of Craig's List, so I think it is a good place, but there are a lot of scammers out there. You need to be aware of that. Beyond that, your other ideas are good ones.

Re: Where to list a Model A for sale?
Craig's list works GREAT for us in almost every imaginable category.
certain postings seem to attract numerous spam and scam replies, others do not. have yet to figure out what are the keywords that make the difference. a friend recommended oldride.com , she has sold several Model As on that site. we are keeping our MARC of Originality Coupe exclusively for sale on Fordbarn & MAFCA for the first month, hoping to find a preservationist buyer, but we will expand to Craig's and oldride.com if needed.

I ended buying mine when I stumbled across an ad in the local club's monthly newsletter (which they post online). But, even without that happenstance, getting the word out to the local membership might help spread the word.. |

No one has mentioned eBay. I bought my PU there several years ago. I have been very pleased with my purchase. However, the jury is still out as to whether or not I would do it again.

Living in a fairly large city, I would NEVER sell another car on the internet!!!!! Too many SCAMMERS, CROOKS, WEIRDOS, ETC!!!
I even recieved a COUNTERFEIT check for $22,000.00!! Read about it on MAFCA SCAMS LIST! Bill W.

Re: Where to list a Model A for sale?
Will, as you already know there are only a handful of people who can appreciate (or even understand, for that matter) a vehicle done to the level of your panel truck, and they're probably not shopping Craigslist or eBay for their next purchase. MAFCA and MARC are probably the best venues for advertising it, and the chances are good that it'll still sell by word of mouth.
I can already see the emails coming in from potential eBay bidders now... "Your reserve is HOW MUCH? Well there's another one JUST like it listed for $40,000 less!" Just like it, huh? Riiiight..... Best of luck with the sale nonetheless. Hopefully you'll find someone soon who can appreciate the work and effort that go into building a vehicle of that caliber. Deron |

Re: Where to list a Model A for sale?
I have bought and sold a lot of cars on Craigslist. You do get a lot of emails from weird characters. For-instance, "I am on an oil rig in the Caribbean, but will send you a deposit", "Would you like to donate it to charity", "I will send my agent to view the car and submit my offer" etc.
The best way to sort through the chaff is to advise that you will take no email inquires, period. They have to call a phone number. After your add is posted (an email address is required to post the ad) Then go into your email and create a spam block for the craigslist email address. Then you will only get calls and most likely from serious folks. I found the process much better when I adopted that policy.

Re: Where to list a Model A for sale?
I've been doing some work for an elderly fellow that has been a collector all his life. He's down to three or four now,and he only uses Hemmings. He has every Hemmings printed. The first one looks like a Xeroxed newspaper.I think he said it was 1954.He does not own a computer, and if you write him a letter concerning one of his cars,he will write you one back.He gets his price for all of his cars.He is no longer mobile, hasn't driven in a few years, and is clearing out the last of his cars.He recruits one of us younger fellows to kill the alarms, unlock the door, take the cars out,and then turn them loose to check them out.If the buyer wants it,he can sit down and sell it to them, but there will be no haggling. He's just no longer up to it.Four or five went to all parts of the country last year,so he must be doing something right. His specialty was original, unrestored, never repainted, never re-upholstered low mile cars.Being firm on price with no option to haggle weeds out the deadbeats, bargain hunters, and time wasters. His cars speak for themselves, and I don't believe I showed one that didn't get bought right up.

Re: Where to list a Model A for sale?
Craigslist works, but you have to be careful. I always put in my ads that the ad will be taken down when it is sold. Don't bother asking me if it is still for sale. I also put in to include a phone number or I will delete the message. You'll get people asking what your bottom line price is and if it is still available, they are both scams.

Re: Where to list a Model A for sale?
I put my 31 coupe in the LCL newspaper, it was gone in two weeks, the guy who bought lived 6 miles from my house, no transport problems when you can deal in your own home town, good luck.

Re: Where to list a Model A for sale?
I just had delivered tonight an almost fine point 1929 Fordor from a Craigslister. I was alerted to the ad by a Model A club member. The lister, the car and the Craigslist itself were all one state away.

Take it to a local car show with a for sale sign on it.
