gas pedal
I received my new carpet today. It's pre cut and sewn to fit my 53 ford customline. It has a grommet for the gas pedal rod to go through and the carpet has to go over the pedal but my question is how can I seperate the pedal from the rod. The rod seems to go into a round knob on the back of the pedal and I need to pull it away from the rod. I hate to force it and find out I shouldn't have done that. Is there a trick to pulling the pedal back? Thanks for any help. Bob

Re: gas pedal
No trick that I know of except that you twist the pedal around sideways so the "knob" will come out. If the pedal is really old, there is the prospect that the rubber the knob goes into will be stiff and possibly break

Re: gas pedal
Maybe I'll try to lube it up a little and try it. Thanks for the help.

Re: gas pedal
I put a vice grip on the rod to give me some leverage while I separate the pedal and the rod.
As TJ said, if the "socket" on the back of the pedal is cracked to the point that the rod won't hold after you've installed your new carpet, new pedals are readily available. |

Re: gas pedal
I’d let what ever I used for lubricant soak a little and soften the rubber. Then twist and pull gently till it pops out. I broke mine on my ‘50 by being to aggressive. But, like others have said you can up with a way to fix it or they are available.......Mark

Re: gas pedal
Hold the metal rod that goes into the back of the pedal with vise grips.
Wrap vice grip jaws with electrical tape to prevent marring. Apply spray lube to where rod goes into pedal. Hold vise grips and "pull and wiggle" the pedal off the rod. |

Re: gas pedal
thanks for the help guys. Before I read about the vice grip thats exactly what I did. I unbolted the pedal and moved it around until it came apart. My wife and I installed the new carpet and it turned out good. Now I'm looking for a different set of skirts with the rubber seal in good shape if anyone has a set. Thanks bob
