Default Is this a steel drum?

My 28 has drums which look to be of the same type. I think they are steel but I want to be sure. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, it appears to be. You can tell by the way the lip is bent over. The Cast Iron Drum does not have the void.

Great. Thanks for the quick reply. All for of mine have the turned up lip. They actually appear to be in great condition that is if my drun gauge is accurate.
Thanks again.

It's easy to tell if a steel drum has been turned by the line left at the end of the outside cut. Uncut drums will have a smooth roll with no line. I buy and use drums with no lines, but if your drums have been cut and need to be replaced, it's a good time to install the cast drums.

F.W.I.W., the thermal expansion rate of steel is nearly double that of cast iron. That's why steel drums fade much quicker than iron drums. Fine-point, you need the steel drums. Driver, use iron drums, preferably ductile iron.

Thanks for all the information. I'll check my drums carefully and decide how to proceed.

When I first adopted the Town Sedan it had Steel Drums with "Molded" brake linings. Talk about a scary ride the FIRST time they got hot . I had never driven a car that had brake fade that bad before. BOTH feet on the peddle and we still ended up blocking the cross walk with a little help from the parking brake!! . (Luckily there where no pedestrians or other cars).

My wife said she would never ride with me again until I got it fixed. I have since replaced all brakes with Ductile Iron drums and woven brake linings.
