Push pedal bell ??
I looked at a 1930 Huckster the other day and on the passenger's side floor board just in front of the seat there was a small push pedal sticking up out of the floor board, just in front of the seat. It was about the same size as the gas pedal and I had no idea what it was until I gave it a good push with my hand and it struck a bell that is mounted under the car. Pretty loud too.
Was this an accessory from back in the day or do you think it was something somebody just rigged up on there own? I thought it was pretty cool and would like to do something like that on my Phaeton.

Re: Push pedal bell ??
The 1936 Dodge fire engine our department has has just that appliance. Early fire apparatus used a bell and a solid red light for warning. Sirens and flashing lights came later. Likely that what it is from.

It is called a foot bell or a Bermuda Bell. Popular in Model T era. Strictly an amusement accessory .

I have one on my roadster. Get's a lot of laughs when the bride steps on it in town.

Re: Push pedal bell ??
I would guess the huckster driver would use it to alert the lady of the house that he was there with fresh veggies, butter and eggs.

I've got one of those in a box somewhere. When I was a kid Pop installed it in the family station wagon. When he picked us up from school we could always find him quickly in the parking log.

Re: Push pedal bell ??
It is my OP that a lot of the one you see for sale are from the 50's or 60's maybe newer, for what they are might be somewhat over priced. (esp the 2ed one in 160B's post) Think of them as the Hutchins horn of the Bermuda bell world. Some of the era cuts I have seen, the bells may have been pressed steel but the mount looks to be cast.

Re: Push pedal bell ??
Even though the one I have is an original it wouldn’t have bothered me if it came from somebody like JC or whatever! After all they’re not going to be judged.

Re: Push pedal bell ??
The point of my post is; you may not be getting what you think you are paying for! If it works, I too would use it no matter the vintage.
