paint number decode
hi all!
i am trying to decode the paint number on my 1958 fairlane 500. the plate says RE1 . i know that the R is torch red and the E is colonial white, but what does the 1 mean? the car is solid red whith a white top but as i strip the paint i am finding white underneath the red on the sides and trunk surfaces. any clues? thanks! jim |

Re: paint number decode
Yup, the car was all white, the two tone (red) was added, floors and inside of the trunk should be white too. Both my retractable and 500 were/are that way. I believe the "1" indicates the roof. My Ranchero has a "2" after the two color codes and it was white above the trim stainless as well as the roof.

my car is red in the trunk and under the hood and it appears to be original in those areas. also the jambs are red and the data plate does not ever show to have been masked. however when i sand the exterior surfaces i am getting white under the red. very puzzling! jim |
