Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
Did you guys notice the effort that Frank and Mike, "The Pickers" on American Pickers, went through to get to a '32 Roadster body shell out of a barn? In southern Ill. on a recent show, they had to "remove" = drag out a very nice and complete "barn find" stock Model A Victoria. It was a Steelback, with original looking paint and very complete.
I would be there in a heartbeat to save this little Vicky from further potential decay and get it on the road. I am amazed at just how many A's & T's are still out there hiding in varius stages of repair and disrepair. I would hop a flight to get a gander at this little gem! Be well - SHEC |

Hop2it your are right ! what were they thinking??? that 32 body was worth what?? The reproduction 1932 bodies are super for rodding .Part of History my ass... Looking for a ass for that 32 seat to buy... That Vicky looked super solid and did i not see a pickup [not the bed but a pickup truck..??? I don't think they [pickers] left anything behind.. they called the haulers out... to pickup the cars. Check their website and see in a few weeks if forsale...???

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
The bigger issue was the guy who said he could get that roadster body going down the road for 13-15k. A rolling chassis will cost 8-10K alone, then there is the engine, 4k min. We have not even talked about interior, body work on the roadster-plus assemble, plus, plus, plus.

I can get that body going down the road for that price.. A super used F250 FORD pickup for $14,000.00 and a used snowmobile trailer....Sounds to me they did not want to pay the price for that Vicky.... ! cheap cheap like the birds...

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
You can't take that show too seriously, watch it to see what people have stashed away in there lifetime, and you will enjoy it IMO. I'd like to have the steelback Vicky too, the '32 Roadster body was bought right, and if the chassis and other missing bits are bought right I can see a shop knocking it out for $20,000 Mike said he wanted a "Rat Rod", and that body was the one to start with. Looked like they had a few A's. I constantly see them in barns like that on that show, and usually the people have 2-3 of them.

Reminds me of the first time I met my BIL in Montana. We hopped into to his (group ownership) single engine plane and flew back to the ranch. I saw a lot of nice metal behind the barns that you would never see from the road. That's a great way to spot old autos.

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
On "American Pickers" I have often seen them digging in dusty barns searching for their rare barn find. Everything around them is covered with about a half of an inch of dust and the are surrounded by only primitive junk. Then like a message from heaven, strangely one of them finds a perfectly clean motorcycle engine hiding behind some junk pile. These great barn finds have been planted, just like is also done in the storage lockers on "Storage Wars". On Storage Wars, they usually don't show any other bidders bidding except the 4 different bidders that bid every week. What about the other bidders that are there with bidder numbers? They never bid??? These TV shows are just a fantasy. Very little of it is real. I was a picker and I ran my own store for over 30 years. I still enjoy watching them though.

This is part of the "DRAMA/FANTASY" The key point on storage lockers that I get a kick out of is all the drama of cutting the lock off! When the rent goes past a certain date the locker owner cuts the renters lock off and installs his own lock until rent is paid or it is decided to auction the locker. So why would you cut off a lock that you have the key or combination?? I know it makes great "drama"!!!

Pickers was coming to our little town and ran an ad in the paper asking people to suggest places for them to search. Well, if we all know where the stuff is doesn't seem like a real find to me.

They sent our club an email asking for leads. I gave them a couple and they sent a guy out first to take some pictures, then came back later and taped a show that was on recently.

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
A few of us here are getting a big chuckle out of a little film event that happened at an old house.A TV crew filmed a mid 60's Chrysler product hauled out of a two car shed that was in the process of caving in.The car had an inch of dirt on it,and there was a running commentary of how long it had been there without being discovered. The previous owner of the shed is in his 90's,and when he sold the property two years ago the shed was empty. He jokes that it must have grown there. Also,he had a bad experience with Mopar just before he went off to the war,and he NEVER owned one after that.He also said there had not been a car in that shed since he owned it,and he bought the place as soon as the war ended. The neighbors tell about watching the car being placed there a couple of weeks before the shoot. The dirt was sprayed on the car with a hand crank grass seed spreader. The film crew said the car had actually been retrieved from a simular situation, but the environment made for poor filming.I've never seen any of the shows mentioned,my TV has tinfoil on the rabbit ears to get it to come in.I get a bunch of PBS channels and some news,so I'm good.

Sure, these programs are contrived ! But, they are fun to watch. In Daytona, the Pickers bought some stuff, by "Free Styling". Then, an article came out in our newspaper, stating that an advance crew was in, two weeks earlier. It was the first time that the people met Frank and Mike, though. I doubt if they drive the van across country. They probably tow it behind a hugh motorhome. It is entertaining and like Roadster62 said, it is interesting to see what others have stored away. That is not faked. MIKE |

I had the same issue with American Restoration. I do preservation / restoration work on Route 66 (as a hobby / charity) and I contacted the shop TWICE via Email about looking at some pumps for several projects I was working on and if someone could contact me as I was going to be in Vegas and can stop by - not one answer from anyone at the shop.... just pisses you off. And yes, I know their prices would be through the roof - but sometimes you walk into a place and just get ideas of what you are trying to accomplish... I have turned off the TV and am spending my time finishing my 49 Ford F3 truck and researching my next project - a lovely Model A....

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
So the Vicky was shown again this last week when the American Picker "boys" had a recap show. They are apparently celebrating the completion of 100 shows. Contrived, or set-up, yes indeed - but appears to be a very popular program when compared to any number of dull shows.
I still would love to cast my eyes on that Victoria - Thanks for the confirmation on the town location. Be well - SHEC |

And so it goes - the result is that the "good stuff" is often overlooked on these shows and we, those that know better - spot the gems! This is in regard to our beloved old Fords that is.
It is still fun to watch and they must be popular or else the show would be cancelled. Go figure? Thanks for the input folks -----------------!!! Be well - SHEC |

My initial search regarding the Victoria on the "Pickers" show has prompted a lot of interest.
I have been contacted about other potential Vicky's by the lucky current owners from all around the country. Thanks folks for sharing so many pictures and stories about this beautiful Model A body style. You are all very kind! I have even been told a couple are for sale - makes a guy think hard and twice about the prospects. Be well - Thanks again- SHEC |

There are maybe two dozen high priced items for sale, a few dozen items from Mike's "personal collection" and hundreds of t-shirts, mugs, stickers, and assorted junk with their logo on them The store is a tourist stop, not an antique store. When they show it on the series, the t-shirt racks are disguised and the couter has been stipped of all the knick knacks and stuff. It was interesting to see things displayed there that we had seen them "pick" on the series. I local blues group was playing for the tourist when we visited, and an old (A?) car door I saw them pick is on a stand outside so you can get behind it and have your picture taken. Worth the stop, but dissapointing for antique scroungers like the wife and I. In Gettyburg we visited the civil war museum they picked for and the pony tailed guy actually runs it. Nice collection of artifacts and even spent mini balls from the site for sale...or at least some nicely aged one to appear like those from the site.

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
So ladies and gents - - how many times is this American Pickers program going to be rerun so that I still see them disregarding the real gem in the room? Pushing out the Victoria to get to the shell of a potential roadster for "ratrod" usage............... HUH?
Just saw "my Vickie" the other night on a rerun show - it hurts to watch it again and again. I know some will say - quit watching the darn program! Probably right on many levels ! SHEC |

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
I can't watch that show, American Pickers. I know it is staged, but I see items just like some pieces that have been stolen from me in the past. I sometimes wonder if those are my antique possessions that worked their way into somebody's hands. Probably not, but painful. And I really don't like people that show up uninvited and want to talk me out of stuff that I don't want to sell.

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
I certainly understand the concern about folks just showing up unannounced hoping to "pick" something up. I am all for talking about the cars with folks keen on learning about the FORD and it's history - but yes this particular show has gone FULL- commercial and the visits are preset.
Lets just keep as many on the road as possible and perhaps watch the guys (if you want to do so), walk right by a quality car to get to some other "treasure". Thanks - Be well - SHEC |

Don't you find Pickers is a phony, staged scenario that has lost most of its viewers. It used to be everyone was talking about it now nobody cares about it anymore. Wayne

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
That reminds me off my Flight Instructor showing me the local lovers lane about a mile or so, off the end of the runway! Or the times we flew past Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook. Gunnison Beach is clothing optional . There are three beaches very close and you could always tell which was Gunnison by the number of boats offshore. You can definitely see more from the air!

Yes, several years ago I had a connection for sheetmetal parts & bodies from Kansas & Oklahoma where he would go to small airfields to rent a plane & pilot. Usually they would fly for about 4 hours, flying fence rows and back roads looking behind barns and in gullies. He would carry a handheld GPS and binoculars and when he saw an area where he wanted to return to, he wrote down the coordinates. Later he would return to those areas with his 4WD truck and a winch-equipped trailer and most farmers were all too happy to sell it. Much of the vintage stuff he located would be hauled to Chickasha twice a year where he would sell out in short order. So yes, you do see more from the air! |

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
Having done a little "Picking" myself, I have often considered this aspect. No one ever met me at the door or gate with a gun, but we were always waiting for that to happen. So here we were, in Big Swampy City, down the Little Catchacootie river, Population 198 people! We get to a old home, gas station, dealership, what have you and the guy's got a lot of parts, he's been trying to sell since 1995 with no luck because the locals can't see a market for "that old junk." We make a deal! and John Q Citizen gets some money for his stuff that would otherwise wind up in a scrap yard. The local economy gets a small infusion of cash. Everyone's happy! Now please tell me how I should know the ones who want to sell from the ones who don't without asking? Don't be annoyed at us, we maybe doing your wife and kids a favor!

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
Found another '31 Vicky on Craigslist - ( Northern ) CALIFORNIA today.
Green body, looks complete, no rust, - apparently stored 25 plus years, asking $$$$ 9K. Total restoration needed - or, get it running and go from there? Note states that an inventory of parts has been taken with very little missing. Time to take a look at this Steelback Victoria? Be well - SHEC Last edited by SHEC; 02-23-2015 at 07:54 PM. Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
The latest on the "Picker Boys".
I have not watched the latest American Pickers to see just what is their latest car find. I have it recorded but have yet to find time to watch it. The tease is "found an American Icon car - barn find" Worth a look? What model car are they speaking of? The track record for these folks is not that greatest when it comes to automobiles............. Just sayin'. Thanks - SHEC |

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
I've read in the paper that the Pickers are coming to our area. To be honest, I'd much rather deal with these "Pickers". They are much more entertaining and know their way around an old Ford:

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
Thanks -
I watched it last night after our Ford club meeting and could not believe the condition of the once thriving AMC dealership. How do you let that much property and all those cars literally go to seed? If my eyes did not deceive me, there was an AMX on the "showroom floor". Someone out there must want to get a hold of some of these rides - go figure. TBone - you are correct that this was an interesting episode as we learned quite a bit about the Nash Healey make up. Thanks for the input. Be well - SHEC |

Steve -
I would have to agree on the phony aspect. The show continues to stir the pot with "finds" all over the place. The last one that caught my eye was a '33 Ford Coupe that had been rusted and partially cut by someone in the past. They bought and dragged it home to IA. from CA., then let the shop guy turn it into the "consummate chopped Rat Rod". What is in the next barn..................? Be well - SHEC |

I like to occasionally watch American Pickers when I get depressed about all the junk I have.
Then, I don't feel so bad after I see some of the situations they come across. However, I am surprised to hear some of you feel that American Pickers may not be totally on the up and up!!! My thoughts, Chris W. |

In answer to your question I THINK they are running new shows because the tattooed chick was on the road with some guy named Jeff, never saw him years ago when I watched the show and she was always at the home place. From the 3 minutes I watched, I was able to surmise it is still the same BS phoney already done- deal show they have been promoting all this time. I believe in WWF wrestling before this crap. Surprised it's still around. |

A couple in our club went to their "store" recently. Everything except the shirts, mugs, and other picker souvineers was marked NFS (Not For Sale). While I've always thought the show was a bigger joke then WWF, now I'm certain.

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
According a customer insider who filled me in at one time, those so-called pickers have people from the History Channel go in and see if it will make a good show. It is pretty much arranged beforehand what is for sale and what isn't. So then the guys 'show up' in their van which has been transported there previously on a separate trailer. Ever notice the camera is already in the driveway? Then they pick thru crap, and they really don't buy anything alot of the time, they just make it appear they do. That's why some stuff is actually not for sale in their store, it's just there to make it look good. The whole thing is a sham. It has hurt the whole industry, cause now everyone thinks everything is worth something.

They do act like the old Beavis and Butthead cartoon. Maybe so, but I consider more palatable a lot of TV broadcasting. I do get sick of oil cans and bicycles! At least no violence, sex, immoral message, swearing, political message, social stance, Fake news, lesson for the sheeple, pandering.....on on on Last edited by Oldbluoval; 09-22-2020 at 09:57 AM. |

I think we’re both right 100%!
TV has become dangerous to society I used to more or less limit it to news and sports. Now both of those are sickening too! I once heard that one was old when they like everything better the way it was... Here I sit proof of such!! Age 73 and that’s the way it is !! |

The older you get, the more you realize how smart they really were. The old saying goes “ when I was 15 my father knew nothing. Ten years later when I was 25 I was shocked how much he learned and how smart he got in those ten years.

Checking to see if anyone has current information on the 31 Vicky that was moved to get to a sad old 32 roadster body on the American Pickers program? It has been sometime but I believe some on this site lived in the area where it took place. Just curious to see if it was saved.

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
I read a blip on another forum regarding a guy that sold a car 'to them for the show'. He said the deal actually started months before they even got there. The production co. arranged with another buyer. Said they were there all day filming for a 15 min segment. It appeared the pickers bought the car in reality it was someone else that paid the money. All for looks. WHAT a reality show that isnt REAL!

Re: Moving the 30/31 Victoria on Amer. Pickers
Yes, I’ve known 3 folks visited by Pickers. All scripted and orchestrated.
I think the “deals” were for real and consummated. Two said Mike was a really nice guy; Frank….well not so much. Also, the two bickered a lot among themselves. Third person just complained it took over 12 hours to film the segment! To me they seem like real life of the animation Bevis and Butthead ! |

Thanks for the response. I would love to catch up with those folks out in the field some day. I know that it is a television show and all that goes with it. But as you have actually met Mike, then that confirms his knowledge and earnest interests. The show has gone through many changes of late - sadly including Mikes pending divorce and Frank no longer a daily presence.
So I will continue to wonder why the Vicky was overlooked and pushed out of the shed for the remnants of another Ford..... I guess I’m a true Model A guy - Be well ✔️🇺🇸 |

I realize that I misquoted my Dads purchase price from 1958. He ended up paying $50.00 American US cash for the Ford….l reconfirm money well spent as it is still in the family. I took it to the gym yesterday as I do twice a week and we will be in the local “ Welcome Santa “ parade this Friday night. So I will have to politely decline the $15.00 profit offer. Annie is still on family duty.
