Brake issue

I am sure you are have been through this but after getting car I keep finding issues with prior owners repairs. The latest is while rerbuilding front brakes I found that the he had hammered the front brake adjusting cap on and peened over the housing a bit. When i pushed the cap out the housing had a small crack in the area od the cap. This happened on both sides. Using a tool to put the new caps in caused a small area to break out of the cap seating area. Both caps seated well. I am concerned about the integrity of cap staying in place. If needed I have two other backing plates I could rebuild but if this isnt a big deal I will continue with these. couldn't post picture but the size of area the broke of is about 3/8 of an inck

Just to add to the story there will 2 pills in the wedge and 2 pieces of sheet metal riveted with the brake shoe and the pad was over an inch too long. No wonder brakes were not real good. And yes the drums are being replace also

I agree and am doing a make over but is my backing plate usable as is?

Greetings from Yorktown also, I am at Tabb Lakes. The covers are just that, as long as they don't fall out and hold the grease in for lubing the adj cone it should be OK. I would make a small peen to hold it in and put sealant over the hole to keep grease from coming out.
