Employee Badges
Has anyone out there in FordBarn Land seen employee badges for the Long Beach plant? Or do you know if they did/did not even issue them for LB?
Thanks! |

Re: Employee Badges
All Ford plants had employee badges. Some are rarer than others and that's why you don't see them that much.
I was talking with a friend of mine who I frequently trade Ford memorabilia with and he related a story to me of finding Employee Badges at yard sales in his hometown of Dearborn Heights for 50 cents to $1 all the time. I'll buy all of them I can find at that price... LOL |

Re: Employee Badges
I have several early Ford Plant Badges but not a Long Beach. However, I have seen one. It's in a friends collection. My favorite is the one I have from the Seattle Ford Plant......Much tougher to find then Long Beach.

It's crazy what some of the Employee Badges go for! I've been wanting to add a couple of the badges used in the teens with the brass rad. Model T on them. Those go for insane money- at least the ones I've seen sell. Been looking for Jacksonville badge as I have 2 Model A's that were built there, but have yet to see one surface. |

Re: Employee Badges
I would be interested to know whether our Aussie mates can verify the 'Australia' Ford badge. It looks a bit sus. to me, historically speaking. Would they depict the first T for the Geelong plant of 1925 build date. Plant badges begin from the late T era.
I want a 'Windsor' [Canada] plant badge which do exist! |

Re: Employee Badges
Model A era employee badges were two different styles, both of which are the Model T radiator shell 1917-1925 style. One is pictured below. The other style didn't have the removable plastic/paper insert.

Hi Luke: plant badge 003 (Medium).jpg
I found my in the 1980's at Hershey during the " mud & rain " era. It was raining so hard I walked into a large tent to get out of the rain for awhile. The owner asked I was looking for and I said Ford stuff. He walked over to a display case and pulled out the early brass Ford badge. His price $10.00 Sometime it is better to be lucky than good. |

Re: Employee Badges
I am just looking for the later badges that were issued after 1931, ,ainly because the earlier ones are out of my price range. I am looking for an employee bedge and tool tag from the Omaha Plant. I am sure they are out there but I have never seen an empolyee badge and have only seen one tool tag.
Thanks Arestorations |

Re: Employee Badges
Even the 1937-63(most common) style is starting to climb in value. The smaller the plant the more rare the badge. I suspect Omaha is going to fall in this category.

A search of the web shows Omaha plant opened in Sept. 1915 and closed in 1936. That may or may not be accurate.

Re: Employee Badges
Compare it to this original- The repro has a rounded top on the radiator shell, the checks are larger in the radiator portion. Also there's no identifying mark on the back as to maker. There's other differences but these are some of the major things to look for.
The fake badge in question- |

Re: Employee Badges
Luke, that is neat!
I have heard that the commoner type with the Plant , boat & 'plane stamping can be dated by how the pin is attached. Earlier from 1937 has pin directly attached to badge but later ones have the pin attached to a bar which is bonded to the back. Is this correct, & does anyone know the dates of change? |

Fordgarage: The J1125 looks like a 1931 Model A Ford radiator shell. I have included a picture of a similar one I purchased on the bay from the United Kingdom.badges 007 (Medium).jpg
The Ford store token allowed you to buy from the Ford store. Just a guess but I think they were near Ford factories when they were not located by a major city. Here is Canadian version. Gary in MN badges 005 (Medium).jpg |

Re: Employee Badges
I have been dealing with a fellow who is compiling a book on Ford Motor Company employee badges for all eras. He related to me that there were about a dozen SERIOUS collectors. I have been collecting since the early 70's and have quite a few, concentrating on the Model A era but have since widened my scope from early Model "T" to late V8.
Obviously, many Model A'ers collect ones from their area or where their A was assembled, price and scarcity being the limiting factors. The Model T shell style was still in use when the "A" was introduced, then followed by the "oval top" into the late thirties when, in 1938, the shield style with factory diorama was introduced showing the smoke stacks, river, boat and plane. This "38" style continued till the early 40's. Henry had 100's of plants around the world so there were many 100's of badges produced and many styles are available still. |

RAWSONVILLE BADGE:
Hello to all! I just joined this board and like it already. I worked for Fords for 40 years as a Die Maker at the Monroe, MI Stamping plant. I have a few Ford badges but I'd like to pick up one for a friend of mine. He is a Vietnam Vet and worked at Fords about 35 years at the Rawsonville Plant. I'd Love to surprise him with a Rawsonville Plant badge. If any of you can help me out I would truly appreciate it. My thanks to all for reading this post.... Fonz |

Meant to look like the earlier brass radiator T - I think it was used into the mid 1920's when the later T radiator shape was used - but I'm no expert on these.

Re: Employee Badges
Even Henry wore a badge! Ford identification badges began to appear around 1912 and changed in design several times over the years. Henry Ford's badge shown here was standard during World War II for all employees, who were also issued a laminated ID card with a facsimile signature of Harry Bennett. These picture badges were discontinued in November, 1945.

Re: Employee Badges
I realize this is not an employee badge, but an award pin probably for years of service. Can anyone provide information as to what it was awarded for, and the time frame when it was awarded such as the 50s, 60s, 70s etc. I found it at Iola in 2002 and it is the only one I have seen. It is about the size of a dime, is 10K gold, and has a diamond inserted.
Thanks |

Re: Employee Badges
They certainly did have badges in New Zealand. The Ford Motor Co Worldwide Employee Badges, ID Cards, Passes & Permits book shows them and many other from foreign countries. The book can be purchased on the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum site: fordv8foundation.org - FORD STORE page

Re: Employee Badges
Ford in Chicago did issue badges. The book, Ford Motor Co Worldwide Employee Badges, ID Cards, Passes & Permits, lists them. They also have a Rarity Guide and some of the Chicago badges appear to be fairly rare. If you have any interest in badges and other Ford ID issues, the book is well worth getting. Plus all proceeds from the sale of the book go directly to the operation of the Ealy Ford V-8 Museum in Auburn, IN.

Re: Employee Badges
Here are three badges in my collection.
The first is a Chicago employee badge. The second is a Ford Plant Protection badge from the early 50's. A.E.D. stands for Aircraft Engine Division. I'm fairly certain this plant was the old Dodge plant on the southside that built the B-29 during WWII, before being used to build the Tucker, and then Ford bought it. You can see the State of Illinois Seal in the center. The third picture is of a badge I got a few years back at an estate sale of a Model A carb rebuilder. You can see it is a police style shield that says Police Zenith Carburetor Div. Throwing in in here because, what the hell... -Tim

Re: Employee Badges
I got this belt buckle from my grandmother shortly before she passed away. She told me that it was a gift from ford that her father received as a token for 20 years employment She said that he started working for ford before she was born but shortly after he immigrated from England. My math puts him probably starting at ford around 1930. Im not sure what he did. Wonder if any have seen one exactly like it. I have found similar. but none that have the area between the f and the o filled. I wear it nearly every day.

Re: Employee Badges
I started just a few years ago. Just wanted to collect Rouge Badges mostly since I worked in the Rouge complex for 17 years and love the history. I have since branched out to other Ford Badges as well

Re: Employee Badges
I hope you have bought the Ford Employee Badge book! It's available at http://fordv8foundation.org/store.html under BOOKS. If you do have one, there are now several updates on the site: http://fordv8foundation.org/badgebook.html

Re: Employee Badges
We're getting close to reordering it. I'm hoping to include all the additions that have cropped up since it was first published.

Re: Employee Badges
A couple of my items were sent in already. I will definitely get a new edition when it's available at least to support the work.
Looking to possibly trade one of my original Lincoln Motor Company badges for an original Ford Oval badge one day. Last edited by Rougewelder; 02-23-2018 at 03:59 PM. |

Hello,
I’m looking for someone willing to sell a Seattle Employee Badge. If you know of anyone with one that’s willing to sell, could you please let me know? Thank You Richard |

Re: Employee Badges
interesting topic !
my thanks to all of the contributors especially Gary in MN for detailing the different mounting styles. I have a handful of these badges as SWAG for my great grandfather's '40 Town Sedan. nice to discover the early vs. late details. Jake bought his car new and lived in San Francisco and I've read that all pre-war Mercs destined for West coast delivery were built in the Richmond plant. I've been searching (casually) for *anything* from this facility for decades and, with the exception of the odd aerial photo, nothing. nada. zero. zip. input appreciated. TIA |

nothing to speak of. a couple of ROUGE shift badges (... as they were described to me decades ago) and a couple of tool checks. my great grandfather was the original owner of this '40 Town Sedan and when I found out that (maybe it's true) all pre-war Merc's destined for West Coast delivery were assembled @ the Richmond plant I started looking around. this was a San Francisco delivery. he was a retired S.F. police officer. these kind of numbers are beyond my ability. I did notice the Canada badge that went off several weeks ago. YOW! |

Re: Employee Badges
Very cool, I have several of those myself. The Rouge badges all have letters designating the different departments. I'd be interested to know what letters you have on your badges.
