Dang you David . . . you found out! I'm not sure what type of 32 coupe that is in the picture with Earl . . . wish he'd had that one in the garage next to the Cab!

The window count on the left side of it in the photo suggests that it is a Fordor.

Hey Tinker,
I've got a '32 5 window, model 18 that is pretty stock. It was 'restored' some years back. Looks good with , what was it...mohair interior ?
The old man had dual pipes and '40 hydraulics and tube shocks. But rebuilt the 21 stud and did good !! Wheels are Ugly, but that is easy to fix (vintuque).

I love the stock look....but the Ugly rumble seat has to go at some point. Who would leave a rumble seat and restore it in this day/age ??

Here is the only picture of the Cab. His grandson was nice enough to give me the only pictures he had of his Grandpa and his vintage cars. It was kind of cool - the house where this stuff was at was built in 1932 and my cabriolet had been up on blocks since 1961 - in that same corner of the old garage.

RE: Rumbleseat: Given that every Cabriolet came with a rumble seat, I wanted to keep it in mine - but when I had the leather interior done, had them spruce up the design/style of the rumble area, added leather side panels, side pockets, etc - to sort of match the front kick-panels, etc.. The style fits the original build period of customs/cars before WWII (when Earl first did it). Purists may not like it . . . but I'm not a fan of mohair - had it in my first 34, never could stand it.

B&S, That original license plate looks like it was a Central Ohio car, is that right?

I like the look of the rumble seat area.

There'd be a lot more if weren't for the dirt tack racers of the '40's and '50's! Ask some old timers in your area if they remember Marv DeWall from Watertown, SD. He raced at Husett's Speedway in Souix Falls and at Jackson,MN. He always ran '32 coupes and if he wadded one up he just built another.

All original except repaint from the early 1940s. Drives like a new car. Superb original upholstery. DavidG should remember to from the V8 Clubs anniversary meet at Tahoe. Could be for sale.

Original meaning uncut, unhotrodded? New paint and upholstery 1972. '33 engine. Body's never been off the frame, some repo parts, some not. Looks great in the pic but in real life needs more work. Car is scary to drive with I'm sure, original '32 front end. Needs rebuilt. Still draws a crowd at car shows like a magnet that there are "original" '32 Fords. Most carshow goers have only seen the iconic "Hotrod" '32 in their many forms. This car? Original, no. Especially by DavidG standards, but I think at least in the same universe. I've posted this pic in the past on another thread.

I think Marvs # was 16. Marv was a great driver.

I have managed to accumulate a lot of documentation for my modified that also ran in Jackson (and a LOT of of other area tracks) in the 60's. Among the papers are a bunch of seasons' standings at various times during the year. Marv DeWall's name is prominent in a lot of them.

My car was the number 102 built by the Thurmer brothers (who ran a body shop in Jackson) and was driven by another Midwest Legend named Jack McCorkell.

Absolutely. I remember him bitching about my "Big Hemi" (a '54 331). He was running a 351 Ford.

Wow! Memories! (some fuzzy!) I don't remember Jack's car number but was it your car he wrecked at Jackson and broke (or nearly broke) his neck? I seem to remember the car going up in the air and coming down on it's nose and spinning every which way. I grew up on a farm about 15 miles east of Jackson and watched the races in the late '50's and early '60's when the cubic inch limit was 315.

I was at the Jackson races a couple weeks after Jacks big wreck.
Jack was driving a friends race car that night, in the 'A' feature race
and he was wearing a Big Overcoat with the collar pulled up, trying
to hide the cast on his neck.
The flagman must have knew it was McCorkell driving and was
giving him the Black Flag lap after lap, but Jack was leading the race,
and they couldn't get him to stop or pull into the pit, for nuthin, so
they finally threw the Red Flag and stopped the Feature race to get
him outta there.
McCorkell was one tough-ass racer and a blast to watch...

I’m not a fan of mohair either, but it is an indicator of an original car.
My rumble seat appears never to have been used, and it is nalgahide or whatever Ford used there ?
My problem is that there is no room for necessaries with rumble seat in there. In old days, I’d ride two people in rumble when going on picnic or fun run...drive in, etc.
Never would let anyone back there with today’s traffic...so wasted room.

Question: is the ‘Quail’ radiator cap correct for any ‘32 ?

I'll agree the rumble seat leaves little room if any for "necessities". However as we only show the car occasionaly it is a smile getter at car shows. We only allow the grandkids in the rumble seat while entering a car show. They wave and smile while I'm mostly idling in line to get parked hoping it doesn't overheat. I'll take the rumble seat over a trunk every time. It creates lifetime memories for the kids.

That is a good point. If I have the car parked at an event where kids are around, I open the back up and let them get in it, take pictures, etc.. An awful lot of smiles are generated when you give kids a chance to experience and enjoy one of these old cars. I let them get in front and "drive", etc.. Who knows, maybe one positive experience like that causes them to want to get into these cars later in life . . . that is a great thing for all of us . . .
