Default Neoprene Fuel Seals? How?

Hey Guys,
I am rebuilding my '28 Fuel line from bulb to carb and planned on using the brass ferules, but now am considering the softer neoprene seal idea. I want to get it right, so what size hose and product have guys used to seal the ends of the fuel lines?

Maybe someone could get me started with a type of hose to purchase?

Thanks,
Jim

There is no neoprene in the fuel system, this line is all you need.

Bob,
I am aware of that but much has been written about using ferules and vibrations, some guys advocate for small neoprene seals at the fitting to avoid cracks and stress

That's a new one on me... Heard of the copper lines cracking

Go with the steel line as original with ferrules ...

The seats are not designed for orings

X2 what Mitch said.

When you tighten the fittings with the built in ferrules, it's best to use oil on the fittings and threads, and you have to tighten them a lot to make the ferrule snap off the nut. I prefer the old standard parts with separate ferrules.

Heck- that's even easier! Glad to use the old tried and true method.

Thanks guys!

When you put the ferules on the line be sure to put them close to the end. If too much fuel line is showing past the ferule it may block the flow of fuel. Probably 1/16 inch is good.

Once we did 2 or 3 pages, dealing with ferrules!!!! It AIN'T ROCKET SCIENCE!!!----Unlike my Friend, who worked with Werner Von Braun, developing solid rocket fuels.

A couple of times I have had to much line beyond the ferule so I just grind it off to about 1/16th then clean up the line with a rat tail file. Never had a problem.

Yep, but a couple days later when the second distributor body was missing on #3 also, I discovered changing the oil made my points get out of adjustment.

Also, when installing the line hold it in place and make sure it slides into both connections naturally. If you have to push or pull on it to slide it into it's spot you will be stressing the line.Just tweak it by hand until it pops right into place without any pressure. Then tighten the fittings.

Thank you to those of you who constructively answered my question and offered your experiential advice, it is greatly appreciated and super helpful. You make this a great forum for Model A guys!

For the minority who questioned my statement - here is a link of some of the fuel line information as proof: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages...tml?1280793542

This discussion goes back to 2010. Back in those days a lot of the Model T guys were doing straight Philips M of M and not MMO.
