My annual antifreeze question
I ask this every year, because antifreeze products keep changing. I have always used denatured alcohol in my A's because some older types of antifreeze, if it happened to leak into the crankcase, would destroy the babbit. Can anyone recommend a current antifreeze that will not damage babbit if it gets to the crankcase?
I can still go with the alcohol, but it's getting more expensive. Maybe still cheaper than antifreeze though.

Re: My annual antifreeze question
We always use PEAK brand anti-freeze. Suppose to be safe for old cars and seems to function okay in three assorted vintage automobiles as well as my 20-year Toyota Hilux truck.
For assorted reasons . . . avoid any type of PRESTONE brand

Re: My annual antifreeze question
Ethylene glycol damages modern bearings, too. If I remember correctly, propylene glycol is OK, but do your own research first. I don't think the brand matters, ethylene glycol is ethylene glycol. It's just the additives and the advertising that is different. The additives do make it unwise to mix different types, however. With new vehicles, it's a whole different ball of wax!

Re: My annual antifreeze question
Anti-freeze will not destroy babbitt. Water displacing the oil in the rods or mains will however.
