1940 convertible hood hinge question
Say I picked up a 40 convert. project car and was in the process of putting the hood on but noticed both rear brackets seem to be missing the short arms that attach to the hood, could it be possible these are not needed or what are the odds of finding these short pcs. of fla tbar or has anybody made them, hate to buy new hinges when that's all that's missing?

Re: 1940 convertible hood hinge question
Maybe buy some used hinges that need rebuilding anyway and fix the pivots at the same time.

I could not agree more. Stay away from the reproductions if at all possible. They (repop's) require more work to make fit / operate correctly than rebuilding worn out original hinges.

Re: 1940 convertible hood hinge question
Well I mounted the hinges without the rear flabar pcs. and they seem to work but those two rear flatbar pieces would make all the difference, pretty sure I can make them, the offsets are easy to figure out but I need the center to center hole measurements, if anybody could provide the measurement I sure would appreciate it.

I will take a few minutes and make some drawings for you. Probably get it done tonight. I'm a graphic designer type guy so don't expect "engineering" type drawings though. Maybe you can use them. Later

Re: 1940 convertible hood hinge question
I GAVE YOU THE INCORRECT MEASUREMENT FROM HOLE TO HOLE. It measures 3" not 3 1/8" as stated earlier. Hope you can use the attached drawing and photos. Just click on each photo to enlarge. I think the distance between holes is the really critical measurement. Use 1/8" stock at 7/8" width. Good luck.

Re: 1940 convertible hood hinge question
Wow nice job 39, much appreciated, I have a super duty brake that will bend them and an angle finder so it should be an easy task, Thanks again!
