Vicki wood sill replacement
Ok guys, My 31 Vicki has only one bad piece of wood, it is the front section of the passenger side floor sill. I can buy the pre made sill board. Two questions:
Can I just make a piece for the front section from about the middle of door to front? How hard to change the full board without taking all wood off the body. TIA Last edited by edzaha; 10-21-2020 at 01:40 PM. Reason: Typo |

Sure, that can be done and it can be glued or tenoned in with a domino or peg. How hard to change the full board without taking all wood off the body. Nearly impossible. Sheetmetal is nailed to the sill wood, plus you have cross sills that are tenoned into the sill. |

Re: #! Vicki wood sill replacement
The splice joint of the sill would need to be able to withstand bending and twisting. The wood should be the same as the existing sill, and dried to reduce its moisture. Make the splice close to a body mounting bolt aft of the door opening to reduce the vertical bending moment. Consider imbedding metal plates across the top and bottom of the splice.
If the car was mine, I would replace the entire sill without any splicing.
