Re: Mike Bishop & Vern Tardel's New Book
I've found mistakes, typo's, etc., in most all the books I have read that were written on this subject. Circle that info, write in the correction and notify the author(s) and/the publisher.

Re: Mike Bishop & Vern Tardel's New Book
I am slowly reading through this great book. As mentioned above, there are some mistakes, like the comment "typical of a 1959 and earlier block" on Page 125. Then on page 156, the Top Picture number 19 is not related to this assembly sequence? It relates closer to Page 136. These slip-ups will no doubt be corrected in the next printing. Nevertheless, it is a great book and full of useful information. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

There was neat tool in one of the pics. Devise to lift engine under the intake ports + securing it from top. Looks old to me , is it available somewhere ?

Re: Mike Bishop & Vern Tardel's New Book
Well I just finished reading this book. It takes me awhile to do this because I have to use a reader I got from the VA.
I have to say, I was looking forward to finding the holy grail of Horsepower, but didn't find it. I did however find a book dedicated to helping a person build a fine engine. The rest of the books, mine included, are interested in improving performance. This book covers that quite well, but it's biggest asset is the dissembly and reassembly of out flathead, that some of us take for granted. The authors go into great detail on how to do this. So in my opinion, anyone that hasn't delved into one of these engines, this book will be a great asset. I appoligize for my mistakes, Pobody is nerfic. |

Re: Mike Bishop & Vern Tardel's New Book
Just finished porting my block from the information provided in this book. What a life saver. Made my first porting job a breeze. Although it didn't turn out quite as good as the engine in the book! I have no idea how he gets in all the nooks and crannys as well as he did. But hey its better than it was before.
Great book with lots of good information, look forward to using it to aid with the re assembly. |
