As some of us older guys get even older (belly bigger, other things smaller), that little mirror gadget used to see things "down below", may get a chance at double duty ! I may have to buy one. Did the various catalogs say which of the gas tank mirrors had a magnifier ?

Now THAT's funny !

As a kid my Uncle commented on getting older, he said...

It's what I use and I recommend it.

But!!!!! I also use an old dish cloth that has the gas cap size hole cut into the middle that is first fitted around the tank mouth. Sarah doesn't leave home with out it!!!!!

If you have the "flame arrestor screen" installed, it's almost a certainty that you will spill gas on your cowl.

My problem was splash outs from a full tank. My tank has no baffles. The arrestor screen helped eliminate that. I have bubbled paint partially around the mouth where gas has splashed out.

Actually, that was another question I wanted to get an answer to. None of my other A's had the flame arrester on them when I had them. My truck does not either. Is there any real necessity or advantage to having it if the vehicle is a daily driver and not geared up to be a points car?

If I wasn't on Raman Noodles for the next year, I might upgrade but until then, I stick with this cheap old towel.

I've found that a spark arrestor falls in the same category as:

Whitewall vs Blackwall

Walmart 15W40 vs Rotella 15W40

It all comes down to personal preference. I use it in place of baffles that I don't have.

The '28-'29 covers are a different width (windshield to hood) from the '30-'31. A little searching and you can find the appropriately correct width for your specific car. Not a big thing really, but I found that I like my protector to cover as much of the cowl as possible, so I have two different protectors - one for my '28 Phaeton and another for my '31 Dlx Coupe.
