I have a late model 1931 roaster pick up. The engine starts with "LB". Does anyone know the meaning of this "LB"

Re: engine number
could it be LONG Beach, I have been told the Ford said they would install an engine in your Model A at the factory. Maybe this motor was installed in Long Beach. I have been told this just in conversation with other Model A People, nothing in writing

Re: engine number
I live near Long Beach, California and have seen several motors where the original numbers had neen filed off and replaced with a LB number. I was told that there was a motor rebuilder in Long Beach who did that.

Re: engine number
I think you will find that the engine has been rebuilt by H & H engines in Calfornia. The LB means it was built as a Long Block engine by them. You can ring them and they can tell you when it was sold. All USA Model A engines commenced with a A. Dave

Re: engine number
I called H & H. They told me that they did overhaul Engines for Ford. He said that they did not put the number on the block, Ford did that.

Re: engine number
I purchased a long block from them a few years ago and requested no engine number. When it arrived the number on it was LB xxxx. When I rang them they said the have to put a number on the block for warranty reasons.

Re: engine number
Around my neighborhood in The San Fernando Valley H&H is known as Hatchet & Hammer. I have also heard "What good is a warranty if you have to keep using it".
