Default Original point of sale?

Does anybody know if there is a way to find out where a specific model a was originally sold by searching the vin number? I found that the henry ford museum used to have these files but it seems they got destroyed in a fire. Has anyone found another way or are we all out of luck? I cant help but wonder the storys these cars could tell.

I have never heard that The Henry Ford had those. I have never seen anything similar at the Benson Library either. One thing that also makes things difficult is the vehicles did not go out the door sequentially. Matter of fact, these 'one digit differences' could be on different days -or apart by a week or so. That is why this would be difficult to predict.

Steve Plucker did a study on the Dealership Bills of Sales. These documents might hold the answer to your quest. You can read about Pluck's study in this article that he wrote in the May/June 2016 issue of The Restorer:

Some cars had stamps on the front cross member of the body just in front of the front seat (see link below)

Just because I am a little OCD. It is NOT VIN number. VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number. So VIN Number would be Vehicle Identification Number Number. Also VINs first started in the 1950s. The Model A only has an Engine number which was stamped on the engine and when the engine was mounted in a frame the same number was stamped on the frame.
