Cork Gasket on Fuel Level Sender
I'm about to install the correct Fuel Level Sender in my tank.
My fuel gauge has never worked properly. The previous person installed an incorrect sender then installed a compensator/adjuster to talk to my dash gauge. What a mess! Perhaps a sender wasn't available at the time. What type of sealant should I use on the cork gasket? Is there a torque value (cross tightened of course)? |

Re: Cork Gasket on Fuel Level Sender
I have never used a sealant on those cork gaskets, never had a leak issue.....make sure the surfaces are clean metal......do not know what Ford factories did though. I just tighten the screws, no torque specs used.

When mating gasket to underside of sender, you may need to rotate the gasket to mate with holes until all holes are mated, but if you can't mate, turn the gasket upside down and repeat until all holes align with each other. If original philips-head screws are still re-useable, then do so and replace any bad ones (if the philips-head is buggered up). You don't need a socket wrench with a philips bit to tighten the screws, just a regular philips screwdriver and tighten by hand. Snug down all at first one time then go back to the beginning and give 'em a little extra tightening. You don't need to torque too heavily. |
