Default Color Black Or Is It?

I am missing the body plate on the firewall of my 1938 Standard Coupe.
The car is painted black, but I can not tell if this was the original color or something else. Taking the door panels off doesn't show and other color than black or rust color primer.
Does the serial number on the frame indicate a color in manufacturing like some later vin numbers do? Is there any other place to look? Thanks

Nothing in the body plate or serial will tell you the color. Just need to poke around the car looking for out of the way places that might disclose the original color.

Take a look at the edges of your doors. If there is a chip, you can usually see all the colors of the previous paint jobs. (including the original).

I believe the 38 std coupe was only offered in 3 colours...
Black
Dark Blue
Gray
The lighter color does not look so good on them because of the side vents.
Gaps have to be perfect.

Correct me if I'm in error, there's only a patent plate on the firewall (actually called a dash panel). No other plates like other makes. Yes? No? Specials?

Briggs and Murray and other body makers added body plates with sequence numbers to the bodies they manufactured for Ford.

Odds are it wasn't a full body dip, refinish restoration, or was it? Someone said that of my car, that if it was restored "right" no traces would show. Sorry, nobody stripped my car to the bare body, gutted everything, dipped in red oxide, then sprayed the car just like the factory did. It was a 60HP standard Tudor when new. If you're seeing original paint inside I'd almost raise a rt hand that it's always been black. Post a pic or 3, let's see it. Here's mine, original paint...

supposedly if Briggs or Murray assembled the body and sent it to Ford there was a body ID plate installed, if the parts were supplied to Ford by them but actually assembled by Ford there was no such tag
