It's not my 39
When I was in high school my sisters boyfriend was driving a 39 Ford coupe. From the first day I saw that car I knew I wanted to own one someday. I was to young and couldn’t afford that back then, but I still wanted that car. I was heart broken when my sister told me that he sold the car and bought a 1950 Ford convertible. It was nice but I wanted that 1939.
Two years ago I started a quest to find a stock 1939 or 40 that I could restore, but most of what I was looking at was either too rough or had been turned into a street or rat rod. Nothing wrong with that if that’s what your interested in. I ended up finding and buying something I would have never considered before. That is a 1938 Ford Standard coupe with a v8 60 motor completely unmolested. It had been sitting for years and needed to be completely gone through. I bought it from a man that said he found it in a estate sale. He said the owner was driving it up until the day he died. It had a full tank of gas when I bought it. The thing he forgot to mention was the owner died 15 years before and the gas was a little stale. This has been a learning experience and a two year restoration in progress. I love the simplicity of this car and lines that make it so art deco. I’m not sorry it’s not a 39…it all worked out in the end!

Re: It's not my 39
In my opinion, the '38 Standard is one of prettiest Ford's of the Thirties....

Re: It's not my 39
Yes the standard only came with one tail light and one windshield wiper. The deluxe had two of each!
