Default 32 3 window window channel, sticky

When I put my 32 3 window together I used Vintque door glass channel kit. After a short time the windows became harder and harder to crank up and down. There was a sticky substance on the glass in the channel. So, recently I bought a new kit and they have the same sticky stuff in the channel. I called Bob Drake today and was told they don't make those kits anymore and aren't going to anymore. Has anyone had to deal with this? As usual, Vintique parts look great but there is usually a problem with them.

Sounds like a chemical breakdown of the fuzzy linings of the channels.

Yep, must have used glue that never dries all the way. I don't know what to do!

if you can clean the original glue off and have the room, try 3M double backed emblem tape. It's used to attach emblems to cars and available at parts stores/auto paint shops. It's about 1/32" +or-,holds like hell. Adhesive may be cleaned with remover from auto parts store, spray can.

If the root cause is glue that has not dried or cured, a possible fix would be to bake the channels. 24 hours at 150 degrees would be a good test. Might ruin the channel, but they are "toast" anyway. Check with a body shop that uses a post spray baking spray booth, they might do the channels and keep peace with the wife by not having parts in the kitchen.

Before buying from Steele, check with them as to the supplier... 90% chance its Vintique.

I had the same exact problem with 33 channels. I changed the channels to a another set from Vintique and that set had no problems....yet

Steele sells Vintique at a much higher mark up.
