Default Length Limit for Priority Mail Shipping

What is the maximum length limit for shipping by priority mail. There is nothing on their site except the 108 total limit?

At any rate, Priority Mail hasn’t been, of late. It took three weeks for a small box from Carpenter’s to arrive in Wisconsin.

Priority Mail used to be absolutely the best way to ship if item fits in one of the packages the post office provided FREE. I used it weekly for buying and selling. I could order a part from Steve at Bart's on a Saturday AM and it would arrive in Sebastian, FL. on Monday afternoon. New Postmaster General comes in and now you are lucky to get it in weeks - not days. Sometimes progress in NOT the most important product!!

Chuck

USPS limit is 108" Length and Girth Combined.
For example, a package that is 6" x 8" x 80" has a girth (Distance around 4 shortest sides) of 6" + 8" + 6" + 8" = 28", plus length of 80" = 108" (maximum length and girth combined).

UPS and FedEx limit is 165" Length and Girth Combined, with a maximum length of 108"

Keep in mind also that all carriers charge "dimensional weight", and total shipping is based on weight (or dimensional weight, whichever is greater), size, and distance.

USPS priority mail from Wisconsin to Virginia, another mailed 13 days later arrived in two days. FEDEX lost a package for a week and notified me everyday it would be delivered. The last three days they put in on the truck each day but it was not delivered and then told me it would be delivered on Monday and it arrived at noon on Friday. UPS occasionally meets some sort of schedule.

Too many people at
home buying on-line. I wanted some item Lowes didn't YET stock locally. I could order it and pick up at the store in ten days or order it to be delivered FEDEX for free delivered in two days. I got it in three and saved a gallon of gas and an hour or two.

USPS slow on all accounts. They lost my property tax check. Priority mail packages taking at least 10 days.

I agree with Jim M USPS used to be the best! I used to send items from the east coast to the west coast using priority mail in 2-3 days, 1st class generally took a day or 2 longer. I recently have sent packages to Florida and Michigan that have taken over 3 weeks and 1 still is not there yet, but I keep getting e-mails saying that it is moving in the system. I get meds thru the VA, the last order was mailed Dec 11, they used to take 3-4 days, they still are not here yet. This New Post Master General has totally F----- U- a good service.

A friend shipped a small part from Arizona. 5 years ago it took 2 days to Wa. by ordinary mail and came straight here.
This time it took 2 weeks because it went to Des Moines, Ia. first. (standard procedure)
It is a good thing that there is a lot of oil in the Bakken to keep the transportation industry running.

I guess this COVID mess and the record number of packages as well as UPS and FEDEX using USPS to deliver the packages that they can't get delivered has nothing to do with the delays. This isn't meant to be political but just being realistic. By the way UPS and FEDEX as well as all the trucking companies have had delays this year...Just my opinion.

PS I am still waiting on my copy of the Model A News but I understand the situation.
