Re: Gas tank sealing
I used Red-kote on my 48 F1 without any problems. Barry has a post out now and he used it but his gas is red in color but don't know way.

Re: Gas tank sealing
JMHO, but it's a crime to seal a new tank. Save sealers as a last resort.

Re: Gas tank sealing
^ I agree. I put a new tank in my '67 Corvette 10 years ago. With the big fuel opening in those cars, you can see the bottom of the tank easily if the light is right. Mine is still pristine. I think sealing a new tank could cause more problems than it would solve. If it really needs sealing, I wouldn't buy it.

Re: Gas tank sealing
Put a new tank in my '41 18 years ago. No problems. Had the sending unit out of the tank 2 years ago and the inside is like new. I agree with the others, save the time and the money and leave it alone.

I googled the Red Kote site and they had a bulletin on how a small percentage of tanks sealed with their product will indeed fail to cure if the product puddles up too deep and isn't drained properly. So it's probably a small area of the tank that's not fully cured. |

Re: Gas tank sealing
I don't seal tanks. I clean them and phosphate coat them. New tanks just get a phosphate acid wash.
Most sealers will eventually fail. I know there are exceptions, and I'm sure everyone has a story about theirs that lasted years, but unless prep is perfect, it's just a problem waiting to happen and usually results in a ruined tank at that point... YMMV
