Bearing removal from differential carier

Getting started to rebuild rear end and first thing is replacing bearings in the two carrier halfs of the differential. I don't have any kind of a puller and really don't know how one would work. Any ideas how to get them out? Thanks, Jim

Run a bead around the bearing surface with a arc welder and let it cool , it will shrink and fall out.

For many years, I have been driving out the bearing cups from the rear axle housings with a long piece of cold roll steel. I have had to grind the cold roll rod for the best fit on the bearing cup. Not much of a bearing lip to drive against, but it has been working for me. I think that I can drive a bearing cup out faster than the fellow in the video that was welding a bolt to the bearing cup and then using a slide hammer puller to pull the bearing cup out.

Good information but he is asking how to pull the bearing off the carrier, not out of the housings.
If you don't have the tools I would suggest taking to a shop along with your new ones and have them pressed off and new ones installed. Same with the first pinion bearing.

I cut the cage with dikes and remove all the rollers,then take a small cutoff wheel and cut a diagoinal slot in race but not so deep to get into carrier. then take a small chisel into the grove you cut and split race. done

I do the same thing here except dikes here in England are sidecutters . Actually here a dike or dyke is a lady on the masculine side who likes fems ,ladies on the feminine side . Even more masculine ladies are bull dykes they favour leather jackets and short haircuts .
It is good news if you have to pull off the bearing ,a lot of them just fall off.

Use the chisel against the carrier housing, or locate a three leg gear puller.
They are a useful tool to have.
