Charging
Can't find original Post.
40 Coupe, 48 block, Petronix. Had the car re-wired last fall with all new harnesses. Car has never (4+ years) showed in the green on the voltmeter. Used to run on the low end of the yellow, This April it started at about 3/4's on the Red, ran fine. Then about 1/2, skipped and not full power. Had the generator re-built and matched to the regulator, Same thing. Took it back and he assures me it's putting out 7+ volts and 30 amps. Had someone help with a voltage reading today from the Batt terminal on the regulator to ground. .2 Volts. Battery stays charged. Right now I have an expensive piece of yard art. Any help/suggestions appreciated. Paul in CT |

Re: Charging
Paul if it was me I would retire the entire generator system and simply replace it with a 6 volt alternator. The common GM Delco alternator can be converted to 6 volts with an internal regulator there's conversion kits available to do it. Or look at what Speedway offers they have a 6 volt single wire alternator that will work perfectly as well. Going to the alternator you now have a one wire system just one wire coming from the alternator is now connected to the battery.

Re: Charging
Fitting an alternator may not fix any of your problems, just skirting them possibly. Fix what you have and learn by it. Why have you started a new thread on this subject ? Regards, Kevin.
