Speedometer rebuild
I’m in the process of rebuilding the speedometer in my 31 three window four-door it is the round tape Stewart Warner does anyone know how to remove the old decals safely without doing any damage to the mechanisms.

It depends on whether they were clear coated or not after they were set in place. Water slide decals can be removed with cellophane tape in some cases. Setting solutions can soften those types as well for easier removal. If they were painted on or clear coated over then the part would have to be cleaned with lacquer thinner and recoated prior to installation of water set type decals. Most speedos were painted back in the day but it depends on the manufacturer of the unit or whether it has been rebuild previously. This is a good link with a lot of information:
