Just curious about Briggs bodies
I remember visiting a person's garage in a nearby town. The car for sale was a 1930 or 1931 Coupe that had been partially street rodded. What impressed me was that the Coupe had a Briggs Body tag. I mentioned this to someone (I cannot recall where or when) and the explanation I was given is that Briggs built Coupe bodies for Ford but that Briggs bodies had "sharper lines" than the Ford bodies. What I believe was meant is that the Briggs dies were crisper in detail than Ford's.
A. Is it true that Briggs built 1930-31 Coupe bodies? B. Is it also true that one can tell the difference without the body tag? |

Re: Just curious about Briggs bodies
Google Briggs bodies. There is an interesting story of the history of the company on the internet.
My 1930 Fordor is a Briggs. The Briggs bodies have a squarer front door window frame at the top than the other manufactures, including Ford. I think Briggs had a different cowl for 1929 coupes.

Re: Just curious about Briggs bodies
Briggs made some coupe bodies in 1930 but no where near as many as Ford did. They are actually kind of a rarity. Ford Dearborn plus the Ford branch plants made all the 1928/29 45A coupes and the 1931 45B coupes.
