THANKS!!!!
Set the idle air adjust screw like you would on a Zenith or Tillotson--midway between too much and too little.

I found that about 1/2 turn open from full-closed on the T-valve works well. Runs ok with more but is noisier and sort of surges at highway speeds.

Didn't fiddle with the float level.

Needs more choke on cold starts--need to hold it on partially choked for a bit after it catches.

THanks! Stylistically, that would really fit in with my engine compartment.

Did you notice any reduction in carb noise?

Style-wise it doesn't look much worse than the carburetor. I like to fed my car clean air, and it does reduce intake air noise. I set the "gav" needle lean and have to let it warm up a bit before traveling. I can shift better without double clutching with this carb and don't know why. When I was young and foolish I used to shift without using the clutch, I've grown up and respect my cars age more now.

Mine seems less troublesome, but also a little more restrictive than an original Zenith 2. The original Zenith 2 was hard starting and cold natured though so I've got the modern zenith on again. I would recommend it for a touring car. Now I'm I interested in checking out the larger one mentioned in the previous post!

Thanks guys, I'll give these settings a shot. I found incorrect settings on another site and I'm hoping this is what is causing my overheating. The site said 3.5 out on the GAV. Will running this rich cause overheating? Mine over heats idling in the drive for longer than 10 mins now. I'm going to test again with these settings.

Until a real mechanic chimes in, my understanding is that enriching the mixture normally COOLS things down--extra heat of vaporization is absorbed to vaporize the additional liquid gasoline. If your car is overheating, there are many possibilities but the carb is way way down on the list.

3.5 turns open on that enrichment T-valve would be WAY too much on my car.

It was pretty cold this morning and I hd to open mine up almost 4 turns. These are made differently than the old ones. The same GAV rules don't apply. Test and tune to what works on your car.

If it's overheating while idling in the driveway, my first guess would be the timing is too late. Second guess is a plugged radiator.

Its is slightly larger than the 12932 you have above, and is atmospherically balanced, meaning, among other things, that you can run a modern air cleaner on it without losing gas milage or affecting gas/air mixture, etc. The choke and throttle linkages fall into place, and will require about an hour or two to modify to use original choke rod and throttle connections. Once done, you will be able to switch between your new Zenith and original equipment in five minutes if you so desire.
The best gas milage I was able to get with the tuned up original equipment was 18.5 mpg. The milage I get with the new Zenith is 18.5 mpg. The power curve over the entire engine range is much smoother than the original, and I can't say enough about how evenly the engine runs. One drawback is that you do not get that nice little choke rod hookup I see in the picture of your 13922 - you would have to make your own, as I did on mine.
If you are planning on doing this, I recommend that you look into the model 14991.
Happy Motoring!
Chris,
Could you give us some pictures and details of your setup? Thanks!

Does anyone know any data that would clarify flow expectations of either of the carbs in this discussion?
Venturi diameter or area, displacement and use of engines like the tractors mentioned that used them as original equipment??
Sounds like one is smaller than an A carb and one bigger...?

Would like to see one on an engine in a car. It looks pretty ugly in the photo.

Close inspections will show numerous contenders for the "ugly" honors.

Guess I will revive this post. I have bought & installed one of these carbs and am happy with the performance. The only problem I have is the choke rod (former GAV valve) now hooked up is now too long, it is sticking out about 7" from the dash panel.

What is the best way to shorten this rod & how does this rod come apart.

Thanks Leadpot

Bump, thinking about picking up one of these myself. Anybody run into the choke rod problem as leadpot did?

Seems I saw in Snyders that they had some K&N cone filters with flexible rubber necks and hose clamps that would likely be pretty forgiving about putting them n different intake diameters..

Wow, I don't understand how that is even possible. Can you show us a picture of your carb mounted? Does it look remotely like mine posted a few comments above?
