Re: New distributor skips a beat
Maybe you've already tried, but does the old cap produce the same miss?

Re: New distributor skips a beat
It does/did Farrell. This evening I disassembled the Tilly carb again and checked the float and readjusted it. I also found that the two halves did not seat together very good (warpage). After reading some other posts I genteelly filed each half until they seemed to fit smoothly together. Warpage is something that I didn't know to look for. I also reassembled with two gaskets. That did the trick. No carb leaks and the sputter seems to be gone. Still have a little hesitation and mild backfire but I know that's in timing. Gotta work on that tomorrow.

Re: New distributor skips a beat
Improper timing increases manifold temps and speeds warpage of pot metal carburetors . Any clockwise backlash in the distributor shaft after the cam screw is tightened effects timing . Backlash in the counter clockwise direction has no effect on timing . Backlash is free rotational movement in the distributor shaft that is caused by wear .
