Default 1934 Ford 5 Window Coupe Lowering Options

All, I am trying to see what options I have on lowering my 34 Ford coup. It’s a original Hebert ford body, with front drop axle and a indepent corvette rear suspension, most likely out of a 80’s/90’s model vette. It does have a rear spring that mounts the entire link of the rear axle just behind the axle near the rear of the car. Is there a lot to drop the car? I will post a picture of the suspension set up later today.

I could help on an original Ford rear axle but you may need a Bow Tie forum for the Corvette rear.

You could just get longer links between the spring and corvette transverse spring . On your vetted rear , the spring pulls the body / frame up and you have trailing arms for torque and alignment. Is it an aluminum center chunk with a mono leaf fiberglass spring ? If not the mono spring is a big improvement in ride quality

How low ya want to go Hebert! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ7sGO-TSSo

You have to bag it to drop frame. I'm not advocating it, as I'm a stocker guy but know something about it, Guess I like to change oil without lifts, I like flowers in the spring and ladies in bikinis too.

You need to post a few pictures. The problem with independent rear ends wether it be Corvette or Jaguar, is that the center housing must be mounted solidly to the chassis. The coil overs, spring, shocks, whatever you are using also must be mounted to the outer ends of the frame. In your case the rear crossmember sits too low to properly mount the center section. Most hot rod builders "Z" the rear of the chassis to compensate for the height. Your half shafts should be horizontal when you are finished in setting up your ride height. I'll bet that your half shafts are at an exaggerated angle. Post pictures.

Most likely the photo size excides the maximum upload limit, ~500k

The pictures help! Not sure WHY you'd want to drop the rear, but it is your car. The half shafts are essentially level, as well as the spring being flat. This is pretty close to how this IRS is designed to articulate in a Vette. The two vertical boots that go through the spring are what is determining ride height. Seems like I remember Ecklers (and probably others) sell longer bolts to facilitate slight lowering. I don't believe I'd lower those much more than an inch or so. DD

Wheels make it look very zz top. paint too kinda. I think the look you want is a frame drop system with original wheels. if you like that look start with wheels or yank all the suspension out. however you Could change out the wheels and change the look a ton. but whatever.

you have not expressed your objective of lowered. Whats the look you are going for?

This one look cool

Tinker, that’s exactly the look I am looking for in the picture you posted. However, given the set up is like it is and I recently purchased the car as is, the car has a rake to it that I thought might be off. Given the information you all provide regarding this suspension set up in the car, I probably will leave it alone for now. I just was going to lower the rear 1-2 inches to leave out the stance. Thanks for the help everyone

Think rear wheel/tire size would get you a long ways in that direction.

If all you want is an inch or inch and a half, some longer link bolts ought to do the trick.

I wheel change will put you close on a resto-mod. See coker for rims and tires. As mart mentioned if you want to lower you can to level it.

It is what it is and it's a really nice ride made to be driven (i don't know how it was built sooooo). Just enjoy it! Pick up a stocker if you have room. Totally different and fun experience.
