Default Sun Distributor Machine Flathead V8 adapter

Today I bought a Sun Motor Analyzer. This is not the distributor machine. In the cabinet I found this adapter. It looks like what's needed to mount a flathead distributor into a sun distributor machine.

Those fetch a pretty penny. There was someone here asking for one a few weeks ago.
Does yours have the two black knobs on it? Mine have been lost.

What model number? 920. 1120? I'd love to see some pics. Did you get any literature or manuals with it?

Sorry, I was unclear.
I was asking what model number your Sun motor Analyzer is, Not the part number for the flathead adapter.

The "desired" model Sun machine is the 504 which I believe is the one in the youtube video.

I honestly don't know the model number. I have no idea if it is still operational. I'm waiting for the manual to come in the mail, I basically bought it as "Set Dressing" for my garage.

This is the type machine you are looking for IF you are wanting to set up distributors. This is the SUN #504

Ahh, that is an early machine called Master Motor Tester. Very cool!

This is one I have after I cleaned it up a bit.

If I remember correctly, the date inside was '55.

Yours will have a date stamped inside as well if you're interested.

As I said at the beginning this is not a distributor machine. The adapter was inside the cabinet.

I have the same model as yours and with some work can be made functional. Start by replacing the cracked external wiring and clips. Most suffer from corrosion of the dwell meter battery holders from leaving dead batterys in them. If doing Any repainting look for hammer tone blue paint.I use mine and was able to get condenser tester working by replacing the old capacitors in it.

Am I missing something here in all these posts? It appears to me that he has the adapter he found in his cabinet listed on eBay for sale.

Yeah, Uncle Buck, there was some confusion.

He was talking about the adapter he found with his "not a distributor" tester.

I was asking more about which tester he had.

It appears that Rockfla was thrown off by the video and was talking about distrbutor testers.

Funny how one post can spin into three conversations depending on who read it. Lol

And now reading your post Unclebuck I realized I missed that it was HIS adapter posted on EBay. I thought he was just referencing another one currently on EBay to show us specifically what it was, but now, thanks to your post, I see the link is his item for sale.

You need the adapter for the machine with the rotating strobe disc. The adapter is clamped by the arm of the machine, and the distributer is fastened to it with cams on the rim. The adapters are available. We bought ours from Bob Masters some years ago for about a hundred dollars. That analyzer machine is not designed to set and test the distributor. Our Sum machine has a vacuum line to adjust the snubber, and provides for testing the centrifugal advance.

I have a real nice 504 I bought for a song. It is from AZ so it was in a dry climate. No rust anywhere. I actually got two of the flathead adapters with it in the cabinet and sold one. I ended up getting all for free. Everything works great. I just changed the fan belt. I have done two distributors for my 40. They are fun to play with on the machine. This is the only way to adjust the pre-49 Ford distributor.

Looks like the adapter sold for 280.00 + 10.40 shipping. I guess mine for 275.00 shipped any where in the US is not too bad and I think mine is in better shape, it is listed in swapmeet.

That's more than I paid for my Dist. tester with adaptor and a master motor tester. But that was 30 years ago when these machines had little value to most people and there was no term "Garage art"
