Default Front brake shaft Housing nut

My friend has a early 30 Model A coupe and at a car show this weekend, he realized the nut is missing on the backside of the front brake shaft housing (spring perch area). Not the bottom castle nut, but the standard nut and washer as shown on judging pages 7-5. Earlier versions seem to indicate a castle nut 7/16 - 20, which happens to be same nut as a head nut (just not grade 8). Yet a brand new head nut won't thread onto my early 30.
Hate forcing something so asking folks is this the right thread? I don't see the nut advertised on Model A suppliers other than a castle nut. Head nut comes up all the time when doing the search and physical outside dimensions are the same as original missing nut. Part number in a 1930 book is A-21793-S1

Thanks

According to Bratton's catalog it is a 7/16" - 20. https://www.brattons.com/30-31-FRONT...ductinfo/2960/

The actuator shaft can be removed without turning the king pin . This can sometimes "wipe" the thread on one side . Normally the nut will thread back on could be the thread is damaged so run a die nut down to clean up the thread . Just a thought .

Thanks both of you. Could not find the brattons plain nuts as shown on the first reply and the nicked threads likely the issue.
