Gas tank clening?
I have been working on my restoration for.....well, longer than i had planned. The engine was running fine when i started and i am ready to hook all of the "stuff" back up and get it going again. The gas tank was drained several years ago and has been sitting dry since. Are there any particular dos or don'ts prior to refilling with fuel? As best as i can see, it looks clean inside with no silt or residue. Comments appreciated.

Re: Gas tank clening?
If you have a way to look past the baffles I would check it out further. The other options would be to put some gas in and slosh it around in every direction to see if any rust particles show up. some metal bolts or nuts might break some stuff loose, but if they get past the baffles it might be difficult to get them back out.
The other option is to have the tank cleaned by a radiator shop or at a shop that will take the tank apart and clean/coat it. |

After doing the above and prior to install, install the pencil filter in it. JMO

Re: Gas tank clening?
I run 5 gallons or so through at a time- pu in a 5 gall bucket under the dash. after it starts looking clear, as 31 says, pencil filters are terrific and always seem to work.
you can also put a small magnet in your glass bowl at the firewall to keep grit from making it to the carb. |
