Default Rumble seat step plates black?

I have a 1929 standard coupe built in July of that year. I was told the round step plates for the rumble seat were painted black in 1929 and left shiny silver colored for 1930-31. Is that correct?

Two 29's with rumble seats. Both are unpainted look like aluminum. The ones on the roadster may be original but I believe the rumble was added to the coupe. I don't say this is correct, just how mine are. On the roadster both steps are square and the bottom step is mounted on a bracket attached to the frame. On the coupe the fender step is square and the lower is round mounted with a bracket bolted to the bumperett. The square steps have a pyramid pattern while the round one looks like the picture below.

Attached are a couple pictures of a fine point mid 1929 roadster I took at the MARC meet in Toledo in 2016. The round step plates are painted black.

I have an original 1929 Roadster. Step plates are unpainted. Might depend on where they were assembled.

The vintique round repo steps oxidize and bubble within a few years.

Seems like a shiny pot metal.

I thought 28/29 were square and 30/31 round.

If that 29 has round , when did they change over?

July 29 roadsters and sport coupes should have round black dipped step plates. The Judging Standards state the round plates were introduced in April 29. The JS's also state that in Oct 29 through the end of production, Ford went back to unpainted plates. 1928 through March 1929, the step plates were square and unpainted. There is a pretty through section in the JS's about step plates.

Our June 1929 Sport Coupe has round step plates. Engine June 15th, firewall June 18th.

We are the third owner. My opinion is they came on car from factory. Built at River Rouge.

They are painted.

The ones with the Diamond tread shine up nicely with those Brass Bristled Detail Brushes. Use masking tape around it, to protect from scratching the fender paint.
